Well here goes. As I'm posting on the "New Members Group" page I'll start with a short intro. First, I'm Darrel and live in SW Missouri Also, I'm an ever-evolving shade tree mechanic who's worked on everything from lawnmowers to diesels. Recently, I purchased a 89 S10 Tahoe long bed 4.3L TBI as a retirement project and am looking forward to learning all I can. She's apart and doesn't run yet but that's my first priority to get it purring. As she's set for a while I'm always find stuff that needs fixed. Anyway this is my first 4.3L and my first dealings with TBI so I've a steep learning curve. One of the things I've come across is timing. Now it sound simple enough but everything I read tells me to disconnect the EST. What I've read is that its a tan wire with a black stripe and the disconnect ins either on the firewall or under the dash on the passenger side. I've searched high and low and can't find any disconnect. However, on the distributer, there is a 4-wire connector and one of the wires if tan with a black stripe. Therefore do I unplug the 4-wire connection or am I missing something? Finally, sorry for the instant problem, but I'd appreciate it if someone would point me in the right direction.

Thank you!! This is the first Chevy I've owned that I've had to work on. LOL! I look forward to tips and tricks and lots of fun in the forum. I had a 92 S10 I drove to work for many years then sold it to my nephew when I retired. A mistake I know, but I love the looks of the older square body and needed something to keep me out of trouble.

Big Buford most of the pics below are from the day first stopped and looked at my project. Technically she wasn't mine at the time. Also a pic of her in her new surroundings, hood up and trying to get her running. That in it's self has been fill with discoveries. I cleaned up the TBI, replacing all gaskets and O-rings only to find the fuel pump wasn't working. Then, as the bed was already loose I jack it up to get to the fuel pump and found a bad ground. winner! Also I replaced the plugs, wires, cap & rotor and that's when I discovered the distributor was loose. So I cranked it over to TDC, lined up everything and tightened the distributor. Finally, time to start it. So I stared adding coolant and found the water pump was shot. Installed a new one along with a thermostat and serpentine belt. That's when I discovered that the old belt was the wrong one and someone moved one of the tensioners to make to work. Fixed that, got everything installed and once again started filling her with coolant. After replacing the water pump I could put more coolant in and that's when I discovered that the radiator core was shot! Now we're awaiting the arrival of a new radiator and shroud. Fingers crossed maybe she'll be running soon... although I've my doubts about the injectors. The fun will continue!!

Ahh, the "joys" of 'discovery'! Keep plugging away, and you will be fine. And then, just when you think all is well...........! :censored: BTW, it's also really nice to have a great garage for a place to work on it.

Thanks Aitch. I'm sure there are many more discoveries in my future. Once there over I'll probably do a LV3 swap. 🤪
