easy

O.K. guy,you need to unhook your battery(+),then crawl under the truck(after makin sure you have something under the wheels,so it won't run over you!)on the pass.side . look up at where your trans and motor bolt together and there sits your stater motor.you need to take your starter off by removing the 2 long bolts and most likely there is a small brace that is mounted on the front of the stater to the engine block.when you have your strarter pulled donw a little ,unhook the large batt.cable and the small wire(usually purple)from the solonoid.the solonoid is bolted on to the starter with 2 small screws or bolts.take them out and give it a twist,it should pop right off!put the spring back in,bolt the new soloniod back on,hook up the cables(be carefull not to over tighten the nuts, that hard plastic will break on you)and the studs are easily pulled out.replace starter, not forgetting any shims that may have been between the starter and motor block,PUT THE FRONT BRACE BACK ON !!!even if its a pain to get to.hook up the cables and give her a try.Its really not a bad job and if you take your time you can do it in an hour.Good Luck

i searched too wheres my cookie???

anyways the solenoid on my 92 jimmy 4.3 4x4 4 door is going kaput (or its sticky, only does it when its cold) can you replace just the solenoid on these?

is there a brace that needs to be removed? ive changed the starter on my 95 2.2L and that was a bitch...

Yes, it's just a little cheaper than a complete starter, I would spend the extra money and replace the starter, or if you can buy the rebuild parts then rebuild it.

its harder to get the started off the truck than it is to replsace the solenoid

the 2.2 are the worst by far though

the 4.3 arent fun either, but are more fun than the 2.2

the 2.2 starter replacement most of the time is less fun than getting bit by a big mean dog

but some 4.3 are about as fun also,

its pretty random

sometimes theres a brace and sometimes theres not
depends on if its been worked on already, or the application, etc

you wont know anything til you start pulling bolts and wire nuts

its different each time

even same years and engines,

weve replaced a few solenoids recently and a 2.2 starter i did on a 94 pickup recnetly and omg it was about the worst gm one ive ever done omg and the brace was still intact i had to bend the hell ouy of it in order to get the starter out and i did not bend it back! screw that!

i also had to cut the solenoid wire along the engine about 6 or 8" of it because there was no physical way to get to the wire nut for it with the starter under the truck

i just spliced the wire back together after i swapped it to the new starter

what a boitch.

the 2001 2.2l s10 truck we replaced the engine in recently that starter we just had to replace a few days ago and what the hell it was cake walk wtf? same damn truck and engine jut a little newer but totally different

i dont understand it..

its crazy...

you just dont know for sure until you get into it.

nothing is for sure!
