I pulled the interior out, behind the door panels and trim around the windows is jute padding. The jute is glued to the plastic trim and is much thicker than the products I was looking at for under the carpet. It looks like without some kind of padding of equal thickness there would be large gaps between the trim and metal making it feel flimsy. It also seems like it would be better to adhere any sound dampening or heat resistant padding to the metal body rather than plastic trim.

Here's the panel for the rear window and jump seat on the passenger side.

Here's what it goes to.

I keep searching but everything I'm finding talks about carpet. Idk how active this forum still is but any help is appreciated.

Jute, Cheap and easy sound deadener. Might take a look at Dynamat Liner and or DynaPad. They also have a Dynamat superlite but i have never used those. Biggest problem i have ever found with the jute pad is sucking up water and odors that never seem to go away if wet. There are other companies that make knock off products of the above mentioned on the popular shopping sites.

Yeah the jute that was in there was super gross. Dynamat looks paper thin next to the jute, as if I'd be able to easily push against the larger sections of plastic to the extent I'd have to worry about breaks/cracks. Is there any reason to put dynamat on the plastic like they did the jute instead of to the metal? Feels counter intuitive to put it on the plastic.

To follow up you can use dynapad or dyna liner if you need to build up thickness. Basically an engineered foam pad You can also glue on or fasten on work stress relief floor mat section over dynamat fo thickness and a cheap solution. I have used it in several hunting buggies and it works quite well. This is the one i used last.

Thanks, I'll see how the dynamat fits and if I find it needs more thickness I'll add the mat.
