I read the S10 swaping book by JTR. It says that the stock 7 1/2 rearend won't be able to hold up to big HP V8 motors. The book saysthe 7 5/8 rear will be able to handle the power. I plan on installing a 450hp+ small-block. Is there a way can convert my 7 1/2 to a 7 5/8 rearend? I looked at both rears and I can't tell the differance. They look identical to me. Also does anyone know of any company that sells Ford 9" rears to fit a S10?

Curry sells complete assy. also DTS. Probably cheaper to have one narrowed. Only cost me $1950 to get mine in.

if you want to stick with the small rear though, which using an auto you may get away with it, just install a newer ring and pinion with a 3.42 gear and 28 spline axles with a detroit locker. a girdle may help also.

The 7 1/2 and the 7 5/8 are the SAME rear end. You could look into getting a 10bolt 8.5" outta a 4x4 dime or go for the 9"

i believe the 8.5 started in use somewhere around 94 or 95 in 2wd's. a well put together 7.625 will hold together under some pretty good power though. there are a few out there in the 10's and 11's.
