General answer, yes. One major thing to look at is if both use a yoke type connection or flat mount flange for CV type joint. The other major is make sure gear ratios are the same.

Pretty sure the brakes went to discs in 96 too.

I think that was 98 when they started putting rear discs on all 4wd's. Checked RA and they list only drums for 97 rear and rotors for 98 4wd rear. Same year Blazers, etc. got the good front brakes.

Hmm, it was actually 97 and I guess I assumed 4wd pickups got them at the same time.
