I have a replacement valance for my truck and I'm going to attempt to rattle can this..

The valance cost me $20 bucks so if it gets destroyed, it's no biggie..

I bought some wax and grease remover, SEM adhesion promoter, a few matched to code Omni Pak cans (enamel) and some enamel clear..

While I know this isn't the right way to do it and the match mite be a bit off,
this is all I know and have no equipment to lay this down any other way..

Any tips or tricks to get this to turn out the best possible for what it is?

thanks!

Get a red scuff pad, make sure to go over very well everything you want painted till its dulled. Then wax and grease it, take and tack it off with a tack cloth.

Then lay down your adhesion promoter, let that flash for 15-20 unless otherwise noted for the product that you are using. Then lay down your sealer primer and let that flash. Then base, flash and clear. Make sure to do 2-3 coats of base or until it covers and then 2-3 coats of clear and make sure to let it flash in between coats.

Just keep a clean even pattern that is parallel to the panel with about a 50 percent over lap.

I can get tack cloth at home depot or autozone sort of stores, right?
any particular primer suggestions via rattle can?
I have some white rusteoleum plastic primer from a previous project, think that will do the trick?

Would white primer be the way to roll when painting a metallic silver base?
thanks :D

rattle cans get tricky, but if it is listed as a primer sealer thats what you want. Not just a "primer." You can use white, or light gray your base should be covering all this anyway.

As for the tack cloths they are like 99 cents at auto body supply places. There is wheelie or how ever its spelled, south of 694 on hwy 65 in fridley.

I laid it down exactly as you instructed..
but my zip ties holding my valance up when drying failed and well..

here........ :censor:

Best quality of a rattle can job I've ever done.. color match = exact! but......

after my 2nd coat of clear, I walked away for about 10 minutes and came back to this...

I'd like to thank China for their wonderful quality of zip ties..

bummer, just let it dry fully, then you can take some 320 grit and sand the area and around it. Basically just sand out far enough so that you do not end up with a low spot.

Then re-seal it base and clear. Unless you are using a single stage?

I'm using those filled by code rattle cans.. I believe it's a single stage..
A place out in CA did em for me since every place out here wants close to $30 per can..

I took a break from this project and I'll get back into it in a few days..
I'll feather it out, then redo it.
