So I sorta put too much weight in my zr2, with an old rusty frame, and tweaked it right next to the gas tank. I decided the tweaked frame would be a good excuse to pull the body off and build a new frame from scratch while utilizing coilovers instead of the current tortion bar suspension. I have the frame rails together and ive reached the point of placing mounts and such. I also thought it would be nice to add 5 inches of lift and 33s. Everything was going smoothly until I realized the steering shaft will not flex far enough to reach the steering box. luckily I mocked this up before welding mounts in. My first thought was a dropped pitman arm but I cant seem to find anything out there for an s10.

So to my question for all the lifted rigs out there, how do the larger suspension lifts deal with the shaft not reaching the steering box?
Thanks in advance
Chris

Perhaps you could build a new steering shaft using U-joints on each end. Some guys use a steering shaft out of a Jeep SUV which eliminates the rag joint and puts a U-joint there instead. If your current steering shaft is long enough, then just remove the lower rag joint and replace it with a U-joint. Google may help find more info too.

I used a flaming river setup to get rid of my rag joint.

IIRC the new centerlink on my superlift was taller and mounted to the pitman arm. Its that big peice all the way at the bottom of this pic.

I'm in the process of installing a 5" BDS lift in my truck, do you still need to see how the steering is handled?
