All right guys two hours of searching and another hour on google, i cannot find anything.

I have an 86 jimmy with a manual 4x4 on the floor, I want it out of the way so that i can put a B&M shifter on the floor, only problem is i cant find anyone who has done this, so i'm turning to you.

How can i make my manual 4x4 a push button / auto 4x4?

On a side note, how dose the push button 4x4 work? actuator? solenoid? the rice crispy's guys pushing levers? what?

To make your electronic shift, you will first need a NP233 transfer case, you probably have the NP231 case. Then you will need all of the electronics associated with the case. This is the button, computer, switch and wiring, the case has it's OWN computer btw.

You will have to look at wiring diagrams and see what you need to make it work. You also have a manual speedo I believe, so you will have to get one that has that as well. Which I think only one year had before they made the NP233 with the electric. I could be wrong, so could someone confirm/deny this.

It won't be an easy task, but is possible with a little research and money to get the parts.

Thanks guys ill let you know how my parts searching goes, ill hit the yards tomorrow.

By the way i put a carb'd 305 in it so the ecm and most of the wiring other then the basic start/run system, and all manual gauges with the exception of the gas gauge. Any foreseeable problems? ill post up pics if anyone wants to see?

Well, the 4x4 is pretty much a standalone system, but it needs a speed input to know when it can and cannot shift into 4x4 etc... Good luck to you, but you may have a lot of work cut out for you.

Why can't you keep the manual shifter, but put the B&M shifter next to it? Use a different console or something?

I can keep it the way it is, i have a floor shifter in there now, but i want the floor to be clear for when i put the new dash into it, I have one from a 66 chevelle ss (from our donor car) and one from a 64 impala not sure what to use yet, but i want a clean look and making it an auto 4x4 would clean it up.

Hey Guys, Im out of school for term break and im getting ready to suit up, brave the cold and get this project under way but not without a few questions

1 - Are the vacuum lines and components the same from an electronic 4x4 to a manual? ie: the hideous orb, and lines from the t-case to open air, the t case to carb to the cable under the battery tray, that kinda stuff

2 - if so can someone tell me how it they are all connected? when i bought the truck it was without and engine and the trany and t-case were in the back of it and for the life of me i cant get the 4x4 to work despite many changes and research

Thanks guys

Pictures and progress to come!

86 has a NP 207 t-case and since its a cable driven speedo you are about to have all kinds of fun swapping it out. I want the 207 t-case if you sale it cheap.
