I've started to get all the parts together for my carbed LSx 5.3 build. Ordered a Comp 54-457-11 cam, springs, lifters, and pushrods. MSD 6ls controller, Holley retrolx oil pan, racing innovations stainless headers and stock rebuild kit. Still need to order the intake and mounts but I figured I can get those last. I just installed the Comp rocker trunnel bearing kit today and soaked the lifters in oil.

Figured I would start posting some pics and update as I go.

I powder coated the valve covers, valley cover and front cover. Going to run the camaro water pump and power steering pump and make a bracket to put the alt on the pass head.

I have seen your old build, you have one clean s10! Nice to see your going with a ls motor.
Thanks!

I was thinking of replacing the rod bolts with ARP bolts but I've seen some people have has issues with rod bearing failure because not line honing the rods after install.
I used arp rod bolts without honing & no issues.
If your going to re-use that exhaust, I can send you my extra parts if you want them to modify your exhaust like I did. You'll just need the collectors I think, other than that, I think I have an extra of both parts I used. Just pm me your info

Yeah I am planing on using the exhaust I have now. I see how you did yours and it looks like it came out good. What do you have left over?
Thanks!

It's worth the extra insurance to upgrade the rod bolts. You can install the arp bolts and measure them to see if you need to hone them...basically check for roundness and size.
I don't have as much left over as I thought, but I have a straight with a slip joint, and an S bend. I'll get you a pic of what I got and pm you tonight. I sent you a pm about your front sway bar too.
Hey Joe, by the way, do you know the build date on your B4U? Mine was 11/8/93. An early SS.

I don't remember off hand but I'll check this weekend. I've got all the stuff to start putting the bottom end together! Just sent the heads to the machine shop for a rebuild and install the Comp springs.

I finally got the short block put back together, now just waiting for the heads to be done at the machine shop.

Looks good !! They are really quite easy to build.
Looks real nice, but I would expect nothing less from you. How about we switch cabs, and beds? I think I feel you want your truck a different color to go with that new power plant! LOL

Ha sure we can switch cabs and beds once I cash the check that's in the mail right??! Lol
LOL. I thought I was doing YOU the favor! J/K. I should be all excited to do bodywork on my truck and get it finished since it's finally running, but I just ain't.

I would HATE to be doing an engine swap on your truck now, with it all painted. Are/Did you drill any alignment holes for re-assembly? The hood is no big deal, but since everything is painted, it means you need to get everything back, right where it is. I know you can do the work, you have shown that a few times now.
No I'm not, I'm going to take the grill and bumper off, unbolt the fenders from the cab and take the whole front end off as a whole unit. Should not take more than an hour to do. Plus scotch blue painters tape is my friend lol
That may not be a bad way to go there. From my experience, you'll have to loosen up and raise the cab too. I would never had believed that had to be done, until I did mine.
Any update to this?
Still waiting for the heads to come back from the machine shop, one was cracked so I got a set of 862 castings that shouldn't have the same issue the 706 castings do. Once I get them back I'll get the top end back together. Still need the intake, flywheel and mounts, then I'll start taking the truck apart.
