I’d be shocked if I got anywhere near 80 more horses just by converting to EFI. Even half of that would be worth it. I’m also thinking of getting the head ported and polished at the same time, depending how much it’s gonna cost me.

I don't remember how big the valves are for your 6 hole-er, you might be able to go larger.
Some of the projects I worked on had "drop in" larger valves available. Open the valve seat and install bigger valves. Easy.

Did you change the valve springs when you added the cam?
I have an 85 TVR 280i (look it up) that has a Ford 2.8 V6 in it. I got a set of replacement heads that had the most skrewed up valve springs I have ever seen.
There were 4 different spring heights! I bought a set of performance springs... HUGE difference.

I’ll ask the machine shop about the valves. It’s a place that has a good reputation for building engines for decades, so I think they’ll be able to guide me in the right direction.
Stock valve springs, still. If I had gone with any bigger of a cam, I would have needed to change them. So it might be needed after the head work. I’m sure they’ll know.

They can check the spring pressures.
As springs age, they tend to sack out.
Springs can also act like a "rev limiter"... If they are tired, the valves will float at higher RPMs, limiting the engine RPM at high revs.

I have a tired Olds 350 engine that has this happening. It revs really quick, but stops right about 6k RPM.
I know you don't want to wind this engine past 5K, so this may not be an issue.

That could be an Olds thing. Both my Cutlasses big block and small block both had penchants for floating valves near redline. Both were semi fresh builds using GM parts. My buddies Skylark of the same vintage didn't do it.

Mo, I used to race enduro...
I had a late Olds 350 and added a pretty good cam. It didn't float - just kept on to the red line
On the track, I had to keep the engine wound up pretty good.
IIRC, it was an early eighties 350. Weird.
Sorry, didn't mean to jack.

Been feeling kinda burnt out on this project lately. Maybe this will - boost - my spirits.

It came off an ‘04 Super Duty 6.0. 168k miles, which isn’t really that bad for a diesel. In really good shape. I’m probably gonna tear it apart to clean it up and do a quick refresh. But I could probably install it as is.
I dug out the stock EFI manifolds I bought before deciding to go with a header.

We’re scrapping a Lincoln Aviator at work, and the down pipe flanges are a perfect match to these manifolds. So I should be able to chop up the Y pipe and make a complete turbo manifold/down pipe for virtually free!

Hmmm, been doing a little reading. I'm not very knowledge on the subject myself but the size of that turbo and the fact that it's a VNT turbo may prove to be problematic for you. Or, I'm a stupid butthole with poor reading and comprehension. It's 50/50 at this point.

Hmmmmm. I just read a little on it, and I see what you mean. I’ll do some more reading and maybe hit up some turbo forums, and see if it’s not something I can work around. If not, I guess I can try to resell this one and buy a regular turbo.

There was a guy running a 53 Chevy coupe with a turboChev 292 6 cylinder at Lebanon Valley.
10.3 in the 1320.
Didn't sound radical either...

Maybe a turbo off something like an Eagle Talon TSI or something like that?
Or maybe a Grand National?

Super cheap, and about 20 minutes from where I’ll be on Christmas. I just emailed the seller and asked if I could stop by Christmas evening.
