I put some new calipers on the front. I also did the TB mod and cleaned it.

Drilled out the rivets



Removed the screws from the blade so I could put rivets back in it



Back together. I made sure to put red loctite on the screws and I also put a drop in the back of the rivets to seal them up just incase the wanted to let some air through, Also it will help keep the center of the rivet in its place.

My first few fill ups I was in the 15's. I really would like for it to be 17-18 mpg but that might be wishfull thinking. Im thinking a tune would help since its running lean in the lower rpm's.

Also I have sourced a 4.3 for a local machine shop that was abandoned after work was done. All it needs is to be bored which I was gonna need for my pistons. Talked to them about porting the heads and some other stuff.

18.1 mpg!! It is getting better everytime.I have been monitering the O2 sensors and one looks like it is getting slow so I am going to replace both upstream sensors. I finally got around to getting the stickers off the tailgate so no more dented tailgate. I will snap a pic of it as soon as it is on. I had to glue the emblem on it and set up overnight.

When it died, I got it started back up and and hooked up my scanner. I thought it was flooding out because I could smell the fuel and could go into clear flood mode and it would spit and sputter and run ok at higher rpm's. Then I saw that both upstream O2 sensors were not operating. I just bought 2 new sensors this morning since B2S1 was getting lazy, but I guess this is why. I got towed home and pulled the intake tube off the TB and saw antifreeze up there..... pulled the stick and saw the above.

Oh...god...

Get those intake manifold gaskets replaced.

jasond and tytotheler92, I hope it is the gaskets. I really want to take some time with this build not not have to dump all the money into it at one time.

This is what I drained out. I ran some oil with motor flush till the motor started to get hot since there isnt any water in the cooling system. I dont want this gunk sitting in the motor for long. I am not a fan of motor flushes, but what do I have to loose?? Not driving it while its in the motor.

Rather than run the engine, I'd getthe dist tool to pressurize the oiling system. Better to do that than try to purge the junk thru the bearings...may be too late though.

Well the truck has been down for 2 weeks and if I didn't do it now, it was gonna be a while before it got done. Tore it down tonight and found what I like!




And as an added bonus I found this....


Looks like the canister is coming apart so that will be next on the list. This should explain the gas smell I had been getting after filling up. Never could find a leak and no evap leak codes.

Well....... looks like the intake gaskets were the final straw. Got everything back together. Started priming the motor and got oil psi. Filled up the cooling system and started it up... white smoke.... knocking with a misfire on 3 and 5. Thought maybe I had the wires swapped even though I checked them. Also the oil is already milky. So it looks like I will be draining the coolant back out, pulling the plugs to get the water out and get it back running till the motor is done. All I can figure is that when the head gasket blew the increased psi pushed the gasket out and dumped the water into the crankcase. Really not what I wanted as a Fathers Day present lol.
