:wtf:

Hi all,

I'm asking this on behalf of an "internet-ally challenged" friend of mine.

He's got a 2000 Sonoma with a 4.3 auto. It's making a grindy rattling sound (best way I can describe it) from idle all the way up through the rev range. You can hear the noise in the cab and it sounds like it's coming from behind the gauges, but that doesn't mean it is. It does stop and start some times which really has me baffled. For example, it stops when he lets up off the gas.

Just looking through some of the posts here I've found some that refer to the timing chain rattle and some that refer to bad lifters. What's the best way to narrow this down or pinpoint it? Also, are there other causes or known issues with your trucks that cause this noise?

Any help is greatly appreciate.

he might just have a loose bolt somewhere in the cab, my exaust seemed to have rattled one of the center console bolts off and it made all kinds of noise when accelerating
