Best run last year was a 14.5 at 92. I'm thinking if I had 36lb injectors, 9lb pulley and a tune I could break 13s.

This is a little off topic because I was not driving an S10…in the mid-1980’s I had a ’68 Chevelle with a 355 small block that I drove to work every day (Honest Charley’s Speed Shop) that ran 7.80’s in the 1/8th…all motor, no juice and 9 inch tires. I also had a rear engine dragster with a 406 small block that would run 5.30’s at 140 MPH, again all motor 1/8th mile. I also drove a buddy’s Vega a few times that ran 6.40 & numerous others. I know that’s pretty tame numbers by today’s standards, but back then it was pretty respectable. And you had to Drive the car, it wasn’t on a string, super low budget, etc. Summer of ’87 we raced Friday nights at Sand Mtn, Alabama which was an old narrow strip of abandoned two lane highway in the middle of a corn field, had to take a flashlight with me in the dragster to be able to see on the big end. Then Saturday worked at Honest Charley’s in Chattanooga until 3:00, Saturday night raced at Brainerd Optimist in Ringgold, Ga, Sunday raced at Paradise Dragstrip in Calhoun, Ga. We did that all summer that year. Then 1987 Thanksgiving week, I went down to Frank Hawley’s in Gainsville, Fla and ran (and I don’t remember the exact numbers) something like 8.80 at 175 in the ¼, in a big block “streamline dragster”…those were the days, wish I could go back and relive it!!!

Hey Cash,
I just noticed you have the Comp Cams 292. When I first built that 355 for my ’68 I used the 292H, back then it was “Competition Cams” and the hydraulic version that I used was 292 advertised duration and .501 lift, best I remember. And, with a good tune that ****er sounded bad as hell. I ran like 8.0’s with that in the 1/8th. Then, later, went to a solid lift cam. At that time, I also used the Comp Cams 260H in the 355 in my truck, it was pretty strong, great low end. But, I wound up putting a big block in the truck, pulling a 24 foot enclosed trailer with the dragster & all of the other crap was a little too much for it on the hills around here…

83 Short box, '69 327, fuelie iron heads, roller rockers, 292 adv dur, .510 lift, Air gap intake, 750 CFM Quick Fuel, 350 tranny, 4.10 rear gear, 235 street drag radials.

[email protected] 98 - 2.2 60 ft. - This was at 95* with huge humidity, and traction was crap.

Still needs 3" headers and to be dialed in.
Probably run mid/low 12s on a cool day with bigger headers/better traction.
