I've got a 98 Ext. Cab with the 2.2 in it....acceleration sucks, and so does gas mileage. Dont have the money but wanna know what engines (preferably one we know will most likely get good gas mileage) will fit, and what v6's specifically

Your 2.2 should be getting good gas mileage. The most common swaps are with the 4.3 V6 and the 5.7 V8 from the trucks. Also if you want to get into the more expensive side but with more power and better gas mileage, there are the LS1's, LT1's, etc. from the sports cars.

Yeah, but you'll have to stretch the front end about 2 feet...

:rotf:
 No you won't, an LS1 is a 5.7L V8 and they fit in there.

You can fit any engine in if you have the money. Just to let you know that for the time/trouble/cost of a 4.3L you could have an V8. Popular swaps are the LT1, LS1, and 5.3L Vortec engine.

Nope, roughly 17-19 mpg city (depending on my driving mood) and 19-22mpg highway. Sucks and I dont know what to do about it, as a college student these gas prices are killing me.

That really doesn't sound bad for an extended cab 2.2L automatic.

I'm just so used to the old 35-40 I got in my FORD (open flame) escort back in the day. Not to mention previous owner's wife blew the original engine....so I've got a 10k mile engine and 100k mile tranny.

I wish my cars got anywhere near as good gas milage... Maybe you need to sell it and get one of those ugly ass kia (or whoever makes it) things that gets 100000 miles to the gallon instead. Or, maybe you just need to find ya a better side-job or ask your parents to up your allowance, lol.
