I have a 02 Xtreme with a 4.3L and a 5-speed.
Once the warranty expires (or I void it) I would like to rebuilt the engine, to make is stronger.
I was looking at getting the head ported, polished, and all that good stuff.
I believe that places like edelbrock sell aftermarket replacement heads for the 4.3.
Price/Performance wise which would be better to do?
Thanks for the input,

just port and polish.

the GM 96+ Vortec heads are very efficent right from the factory and a little porting and cleaning along with some big valves will be just fine.

If you go aftermarket, expect to spend $2,000+

brodix and GM performance make aftermarket heads, but you ll need a new valve train, nothing from out motors will work, new intake manifold, and some say 2 k the prices can get out of hand really fast and you can end up spending close to 5 k when it s all said and done, our head ported can flow over 280 cfm on the intake and over 220 ext, ported with larger valves that is.

port the intake & exaust , polish ONLY ex. like said the heads
are a good starting point, pocket work, guide thined a little, and
port match, you do need to do homework on springs so you don't
run into bind with bigger cam/high ratio rockers

Thanks.
Once my warranty expires, or I am ready to void it, I will port/polish the heads.
Appreciate the input,
