clutch plug? wont start unless clutch is pushed in... and if it is an auto, that smashed plug is probbly the issue
It could be that it's a straight drive. It does cause it not to start and simply bending it makes it start. So what should I do to fix this ? Like what do I even call it and how do I fix it ?clutch plug? wont start unless clutch is pushed in... and if it is an auto, that smashed plug is probbly the issue
Thank you for all that information that does make sense! I do want to fix it the right way this was by someone else. My clutch safety switch is there in good condition I try pressing it down and starting it don't do anything but when I bend the wire it does start! So how do I replace this end ? And where does it plug in at ?Those are the power wires running to and from the clutch safety start switch. When the clutch is depressed, the switch is "ON", the two wires are connected, and the truck has power to start.
Is you clutch switch missing or damaged? Without a properly working switch, and things buggered to allow it to start without depressing the switch, the truck can lurch when the trans is in gear and the key turned, engaging the starter. Fix it properly, please.
Ok so that 2 prog blue plug is supposed to plug into the side of the clutch safety switch? Where do I get a new one so I can put a new end on it because obviously this one is damagedLook for this under the dash, up near the clutch pedal pivot. If missing or broken, buy a new one:
Your right so how do I properly fix it ? Just put a new end on and plug it up ?It looks like they bypassed the switch, which is not safe. You forget it's in gear, try to start it, and a little kid is standing in front of the truck...not good.
Solder and shrink tube...not butt connectors.Ok so that 2 prog blue plug is supposed to plug into the side of the clutch safety switch? Where do I get a new one so I can put a new end on it because obviously this one is damaged
Thank you so much !!
Cut the old one off and take it in to compare.Do you think this will work ? View attachment 376238
Ok so what would be my best way to go about fixing that ? Like wire them together? Or get the new end and plug in it like dude said above this response?Little late to the party, looks like someone put a scotch lock on it to bypass the switch. Basically it splices the wire together without cutting. Temp fix at best as they tend to corrode leading to a no electric flow situation.
My bad I wasn't trying to over think it just wanna fix it and make sure it's right but thank you that's what I'll do!I'm not a "dude". It's your truck...do as you see fit, but you're way over thinking this. Buy the connector, install and enjoy the truck.
Thank you this was the perfect reply and answer thank you!! That's all I needed to know yes I can do it correctly with heat srink and all! Just wanted to make sure where to cut and splice like above or below the scotch lock but I get it now and thank you for the tip. Every where I find the plug it has longer shipping or it's expensive to get it shipped sooner the earliest I could get it was Sunday maybe it will come sooner! Thanks for all the help!!Cut the existing yellow & purple wires, getting rid of the blue plug and the yellow Scotch lock, strip the wires back, solder on the new plug pigtail wires of the new plug (using heat shrink tubing on each wire), and plug it into the clutch position switch. The switch is a vital safety function and needs to be put back into proper service. BTW, if you haven't checked, the AC Delco plug at RA is significantly cheaper than the Carquest one. Do it right the first time, and you won't need to come back and do it again later, and if you're not sure of how to do a correct in-line splice and solder job, get someone who knows how to do it.
