My 2002 Chevy Blazer came with a factor 1 1/2 din radio. In 2003, Chevy Blazers/S10s came with a double din RDS radio with a double din dash bezel. I learned that the double din bezels were interchangeable with my 1.5 din bezel.

However, behind the bezel was a different story. The radio mounting points were spaced further apart (wider) than 2003-up double din dashes. With this in mind, I had to fabricate a new bracket. With a Metra 99-2003 kit, a dremel, some JB Weld, and some ingenuity I fabricated the bracket in the pictures below. I went a little heavy on the JB Weld since that bracket would be supporting the weight of the entire unit. I also had to do a little trimming at the top of the dash as well as inside the dash.

I installed my backup camera yesterday also. I placed it in a spot that's pretty much hidden from view. You have to really be looking for it to find it.

I must say I love the unit so far. It looks like it belongs in the dash; moreso than my previously installed single din Alpine CDA 9835. I also bypassed the unit so my passengers can watch DVDs/iPod Videos while the truck is moving. The bypass also allows me to change navigation routes while the truck is moving.

And now the pictures:

Overall, I love the unit. For what it does, you cannot beat the price! I highly recommend it. I love it.

Man you got all the goodies with that. I wanna get another I have a avic n1 right now in my jimmy I want another for my s10. Does that one have the gyro on it so you cant watch dvds on the fly?
It has gyros in it, but you can easily bypass it.

It involves moving the mute wire from the harness and grounding that along with the parking brake wire. Here is a flash tutorial on how to do it from Aviv411.com:

Flash Detection

I can watch movies on the fly via DVD or even via my iPod video. iPod videos can be displayed on the unit as well through the iPod interface.

That's one of the reasons I didn't get an N3. I didn't want it to flip in the way of my air vents. Plus, I liked my cell phone mount where it was. As soon as I found out the bezels were interchangable, I was sold. I was unprepared for the difference in radio mounting points but it was a quick fix.

Thanks for the compliments guys. I worked my ass off installing it as cleanly as possible.

Very clean install, but im still partial to having a computer in the car.

Either way, that thing is still awesome, and considering you'll never have to play around with it to get it working like my computer I'm definately jealous.

I had the Alpine CDA-9835. It was the top of the line Alpine HU before they went to shit the following year. 4x26watts rms with 4v preouts. It's a nice deck. I'm thinking about selling it. If you're into sound, it's a great deck.

do you ever go off-roading?

cause if you do i hope you dont like your camera...that will be the first to go...i have reverse lights mounted there and i already replaced them both due to off-road obstacles....and your info is flawed...my 02 blazer had a double din radio...it all depends on the month it was built...

I don't go offroading much, but the camera doesn't have the profile of your reverse lights. If I'm losing the camera, I'm losing my rear bumper. The thing is an inch in diameter. To the left and the right of it are two metal tabs of the same diameter which will also get hit at the same time. I don't plan on offroading like an asshole where my bumper is going to be ripped off. I'll also be getting a hitch in the next month or so so I hate to break it to ya, but my camera is safe.

And yes, at the end of the 2002 model year, Chevy Blazers had the double-din RDS radio; but not s-10's. The s-10s got the double din radio in 2003.

oh..and your headlighst are installed wrong...
And what the hell do you mean by that? They're factory. :dunno:
