I saw this for only $5/gallon: PEAK ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT TECHNOLOGY Antifreeze + Coolant 50/50 Prediluted for North American Vehicles - ORANGE - Old World Industries

i had to do some research because it didnt specifically say dexcool... apparently it used to say 'dexcool approved' on the bottle but they just quit paying the license fee. it still meets the ASTM D3306 and D4985 specs and peak says its compatible/same.... peak is trustable.
at $5 per gallon for 50/50 its the cheapest ive personally ever seen 'dexcool' by a few bucks per gallon...

well...
i didnt post it in the deals section, it was moved here by somebody...
i didnt post it here bc its not replicable (at least not yet).
i went back to snag some after my light research and apparently it was a pricing error....
i got some for $5/ea bc thats what the sign said but the price was supposed to be $10, marked down from $18... and even then, only one of the 10+ local walmarts had it marked down at all at the time of posting...
eventually your local walmart might clear it out in the coming weeks or months but the pricing and timing varies. menards in the midwest carries varieties of peak dexcool compatible coolants too... i believe its merely called peak 'cool' at menards.

the point of the post was just to say that peak is finally putting out cheap and compatible 'dexcool'... it just no longer says 'dexcool' on the label

Walmart has Prestone all vehicle for $10 diluted 50/50 and $12 concentrated to add your own distilled water. With this stuff you have no worries about what was in there before.
Prestone® Extended Life Antifreeze/Coolant is compatible with ANY antifreeze/ coolant – regardless of color – for use in ALL makes and models of cars and light duty trucks.

Prestone also has a Platinum with 268°F boiling point and better rust inhibitors for the ultimate protection. 15 year/350K miles for Only $12.76 at Wally World. For a miserable $2.76 why not go with the get it and forget it stuff.

so with those 'all vehicle' prestone varieties can you mix them with dexcool?
i totally respect your opinions and experience with it but personally i just wouldnt mix them regardless. theres no rhyme or reason to my unwillingness to do it... for what its worth, i am debating even keeping the non-dexcool approved peak 'dexcool'...
in my experience with more complicated systems than the 4.3l i find it either too time consuming to flush it thoroughly enough for me to switch or too damaging. the damage from the hose water deposits needed to flush thoroughly probably outweighs any switch benefits. using distilled water to dilute it is too time consuming and never really gets the pressures needed to blast deposits/debris out... the extra time it takes just to dilute it with poured-in distilled water makes corrosion likely...
just my experience.

i rarely mix motor oils either. i never mix tranny oils (although a wee bit of that lucas trans-fix crap can have an interesting effect because it doesnt really mix)

i have a few vehicles on fresh dexcool and dont want to mix anything in so the $5 50-50 is technically the cheapest i have ever seen 'dexcool'.

like i said though, i didnt post this to the deals section, somebody moved it here.

I've been using the all vehicles stuff a few years and have had no problems. The whole idea behind it is that you can mix it with anything without worrying. It's got a very light orange color to it in the concentrate. When mixed 50 it's barely a yellowish. To Quote Prestone:
Optimized formula for All Vehicles; makes, models, years & fluid colors.

That doesn't make any sense unless you are pouring both liquids straight into the radiator
you still arent reading.
i was talking about flushing an entire system out in order to switch coolant types...

Lol, ok... Plenty of people on here have been flushing and replacing coolant without issue for a long time now. Pretty basic in terms of maintenance.

1 bottle of Prestone Super Cleaner, approximately 5 gallons (generous) of distilled water, a flush and fill kit and 2 gallons of the coolant of your choice and you'll be golden. Follow the directions...not rocket science.

for anyone who is now further confused by my original comment about my experience flushing and switching coolant: i was merely referring to some gm vans ive switched off dexcool to old green peak... some had a rear heater core and that model is known for cooling issues... notably the front heater core is higher than the overflow on it too. you cant just pull the rad's pet cock on it and flush it once and call it done.... i flushed it 5x with a hose, drove it around with water and chem flush 3x and could still make it piss orange on a slope ...

FWIW I talked to someone at Prestone a few years back and got told that it was all the same mix just different dye colors. Now keep in mind this was before the new HOAT and Low silicate formulas came out.
Look at the back of the containers, most give the exact same mix of (no matter who the MFG is):
Ethylene Glycol 107-21-1
Water 7732-18-5
Diethylene Glycol 111-46-6
2-Ethyl Hexanoic Acid, Sodium Salt

Yes acid and salt... the % of each per gallon is proprietary. all of this is available in an MSDS report.

What is "sodium salt" ? Kind of hard to make salt (NaCl) without any sodium (Na)!
If two sodium atoms gave up electrons to one chlorine atom, the chlorine atom would have nine valence electrons, which is not a stable number resembling a noble gas. So Na2Cl is not a compound that is likely to form.
All salt is sodium chloride (NaCl), and it all comes from seawater originally.
It's symbol and name derive from the Latin Natrium or Arabic natrun and the Egyptian word ntry (Natrun), all of which refer to soda or sodium carbonate.
So why would an MSDS document mention "sodium salt"??? Sounds like they're trying to exaggerate a bit to distract readers from something else.
