Hi there,
Just got my 96 4.3 4WD back from the local Monro brake shop. Had new front brakes installed (pads and rotors). While it was there, mgr. tells me it needs new left bearing (hub). Quoted me @ 400 bucks to fix. I tell him that I will replace it myself, thank you. Anyway, when I get home about 3 miles later, smoke is pouring from the left front brake area. I remove the wheel and notice that the rotor is dammed hot for fairly light use. WTF ? 330 bucks for front brakes, and now I need to carry an extinguisher ?! Whaddaya think might be the cause ? Too late to call them tonight, but will be on their doorstep tomorrow. Thanks

The bad wheel bearing is allowing the rotor to cock sideways in the brake caliper. This can cause the rotor to drag the pads.
Fix that bearing quickly.
BTW, those hub/bearing assemblies are spendy for a 4x4. $400 doesn't sound too bad installed.
