Just picked up a 2001 S15 (4.3/auto/2wd) that'd been sandwiched front and back in a wreck, but only cosmetic damage.

I drilled out the ignition lock and replaced it with an AutoZone Dorman one, so that's new.
I hooked up my battery charger to goose the battery and see if it'd crank. Everything lit up with the turn of the key, charger read 8 or so volts, then everything went dead. Tried a different battery, still nothing. Jumpstart, nothing.

Grounds are good, engine turns easily.

You guys have any thoughts?

I'd use a junkyard switch before a Dorman.

Wasn't a viable option for me. I used to work for AutoZone, so I know they can be hit or miss. Think I should swap it out, after the world's done ending?

Two things come to mind. Are you sure the battery cables are tight and clean on both ends? 8 volts won't start anything. Should be at least 12.5v.
When you replace the ignition switch you have to do a security relearn or it won't fire. It's a 30 minute procedure that requires a good fully charged battery. Do a search on here for a how to.
The security thing has nothing to do with it not cranking. When that isn't done it'll crank, but won't run.

Battery cables were good at the battery. I'm a little leery about the lead that goes from the surprise 175 fuse under the battery tray. It looks like it had a battery rolf on it at one time. As for the security check, that I'll have to look up. Thanks for the tip!

It's an idea, but the original lock assy is now so much metal shavings on the carpet. I had to drill it out because the truck didn't come with a key. In your opinion, do you think there might be an electrical issue related to the new ignition lock? I'm also questioning the mystery 175 fuse under the battery tray, as it is in line to the fuse block and looks scabby as...
