Hello,

I came across a 2000 Sonoma 2WD base cab in good condition and have been updating it for my soon to be 16 year old son. We are wanting to get some new wheels and hopefully some new tires that fill the wheel wells a little better. (We are even okay-maybe prefer- the tires stick out past the body slightly as long as they do not rub.)

We have about decided to go with either 15x7 with a -6 offset wheels or 15X8 with a -6 offset wheels and then use 255/60/R15 tires.

What is everyone's opinion on this. (Even better if you have experience with this setup.) Would this provide a good look on the truck? Would it work without causing any rubbing? (Stock with no modifications?)

Not a fan of the "poke" look. I think most here would agree that the best factory wheel would be the 2nd version of the ZQ8. 235-55-16 would be the stock tire size.

Thank you for the feedback. We're not a fan of any of the stock wheels. We are wanting a black wheel or at least primarily black. We do tend to like the "poke" look. I know we prefer that over the lowered look for certain. We would probably be okay with a flush look but do not like the stock look where it currently looks like a "reverse poke" for lack of knowing the correct terminology.

If we went with the flush look rather than the poke look, What are the largest size tires you'd suggest to keep away from rubbing? 225/75? 235/75? 225/70? 225/75? or something different? From a tire calculator site I found, it looks like 235 would be close to being flush with the outside of the fender well and 225 would be close to being flush with the inside edge of the fender well.

My Son wanted "Spinners" lol we compromised on 1985 Iroc-Z wheels
16x8. We needed to install 1.5" spacers on the rear wheels. It looks pretty good with a 2 inch drop in front. No Rubs.

BSmith,
With spacers any Camaro and Most earlier Corvette wheels will fit without putting too much tire on them.
I happen to like factory wheels but there is So many aftermarket wheels out there it will make your head spin.
I kept it simple with the tires but now that both my sons have abandoned the S10 it will get bigger tires next time!

You're going to have to get out the tape measure and straight edge and do some measuring. You may or may not find an off the shelf wheel that fits your requirements. The other alternative is to have some wheels built with whatever specs you're looking for. You mighty find some soft 8's that work for you.

I think this is the look you are describing.
PM @fattboyzz65 for info on what he's running. You don't need to use his style wheels, but any with that width and offset would work the same. Looks like a lot more than -6 (1/4") offset. I'm guessing at least -25mm.

It's fairly common to need to bend that area in a bit. 3-1/2 backspace on an 8" wheel would be a -50mm offset. Same as putting 2wd wheels on a 4wd. Except stock those are 7". Stock wheels are 0 offset so the WMS is move inward 2". That's what gives the deep dish look.
