Hey guys! New to the S10/S15 scene. I recently purchased an 85 S15 Truck. The first thing I wanted to do was get a new head unit because the original didn’t work very well. The original connectors only had wires for a switched +12v power source, illumination, and ground. I used the constant +12v from the cigarette lighter since I won’t be using it ever. Well now it’s hooked up and it works but ONLY when the dimmer is all the way to the left. If I move it to the right, the radio turns off as well as all my dash gauges. My dash lights also no longer work. Not sure what’s going on... any help would be appreciated. It’s hard to find installation write ups for these years of trucks.

Check to see if the ground wire is still connected to a ground. It's usually grounded to a metal part of the dash. You could try a jumper to a known ground or a volt meter between the ground wire and the cigarette lighter wire. Are there any extra wires from the new radio?

Okay I’ll do that.

I have a lot of extra wires I can’t use because I don’t have rear speakers

Just changed the ground and it worked, I guess the ground that was originally connected to the connecter was either bad or not a ground at all. Took the ground from the cigarette lighter and it works perfectly
UPDATE: nvm it just crapped out on me again
