Ok here goes. I am new with the S10 scene. I just bought a 85 blazer 4x4 auto. It has a 2.8, the motor knocks but every thing else works perfect. I want to drop a 283 in place of the 2.8, where will I find info on how to go about this? Also has anyone tryed to drop a 4x4 & still keep it functional? Any info on any of this will be really helpful. Thanks J.J.

Well, you're going to need a 4.3 or v-8 4x4 700-r4 (or possibly a th-350), motor mounts, a reworked or speciality oil pan (advanced adaptors), and a lot of random stuff, like exahust, cooling, etc. Lots of people have done it, but it isn't exactly trivial or cheap.

As far as lowering, i suspect that lowering the back axle would be similar to 2X4, but the front would be a whole different game with torsion bars instead of coils: off the top of my head I can't see how you could get much more than an inch or so drop (by cranking the bars).
