Did you try a search?? 5 seconds...This is WMS to WMS...that's the standard for measuring.

Did you read my post? apparently not, take 5 seconds and re-read it.

I need the dimension from the end of the housing tube to the end of the housing tube. I do not need the WMS to WMS!

The reason I posted the link is you gave zero information as to which rear end you want dimensions for.

2wd
4wd
7.65
8.5
ZR2

Thanks for playing.

You wait a whole Sunday for an answer, don't like the regulars messing with you so it's time to go off on 'em. If you can't handle a little shyt in response to an ambiguous question, maybe this ain't the place for you because there's plenty of it that flies around here...all in good fun.
Cool your heels and check the attitude. Somebody will come along in a day or two with answers. If you don't like what you get here, grab a tape and hit the junk yard. You're asking for free help, not paying for expert advice.

I've got one out sitting on a cart in my barn, but it's below zero out there. If we get that 30° heat wave Tuesday I'll give it a go. Problem is with the backing plates bolted on you can't lay a level across each face to measure and the pumpkin makes measuring directly impossible. Might be able to give you the dimension across the bottom. It should be real close. The only way to get a truly accurate measurement would be to pull the axles and stick your tape through the middle of the differential or pull both backing plates.
No, not even in 80° weather.

How about a plumb bob on each end and measure between the lines...

Might be more accurate to measure WMS - WMS and then measure distance from that back to the end of the tube and do a little math. That's the only way I could get an accurate number on a big honkin' 14-bolt semi-floater, that pumpkin is huge.

Hmm - sounds like an HP calculator that can handle indefinite state quadratic equations may be in order!

How accurate a measure meant are we looking for here? Is nearest 1/16" close enough or are you ordering custom axles and need one like 47.70986532" ? Or 47.7 or 47.71, or 47.710 ?
Doubt any us us have anything but a tape measure that long.
