In the mid 70s I found a 68 Firebird Sprint 4 speed in the parts section of local newspaper.
I bought the car, well what was left of it,and towed it to my place to begin stripping parts.
The front half of body was wiped out, kinda like in an L shape, water pump, alternator, oil and fuel pump, distributor all broke. The Hurst handle to the 4 speed had ripped the floorboard open by about a foot.
I later learned from the owners mom that the drivers leg had had hit the shifter so hard that is what ripped the floor.
I had to go back to the towing company later to finish some paperwork, and since the Mom wasnt there this time, the tow truck driver told me the whole story. Seems as tho this Kid had only owned the car for a couple weeks, panicked when a cop tried to pull him over, and took off down Hwy 17-92 thru Orlando at speeds of over 120mph.Back then cops saw this as a challenge and pursued regardless of consequences . The damage was from hitting a car while blowing thru a red light at high speed. The tow truck driver told me the kid didnt make it,which left an eerie feeling any time I went near the car, probably wouldnt have bought the car and paid the 2 wks storage had I know this.I ll see if I can find the Polaroids of the car

wow.. what a smash up!

reminds me of a story I read in the newspaper in 1999 (I think) of a guy driving an s10 getting into an accident with a vehicle I think it was truck.

the front part of the s10 was completely crushed. guy walks out of it without a scratch.
