After spending probably 60 hours here researching over the past few weeks, I just picked up my first S10 - a 1994 S10 Blazer 4dr 2WD in garnet red/black with a near-immaculate charcoal grey interior, 4.3, 140k miles. She’s got some issues, but all fairly run-of-the-mill stuff I’m excited to start wrenching on. I’ll cut to the chase and post some photos before rambling too much:

First two were pics from the listing right after a polish, she’ll be getting a coat of wax soon to keep the paint from fading - you can see some black poking through in some spots (like behind the rear windows) from the last polishing, but that’s just a little added character in my book.

I’d been shopping around for an SUV/truck to complement my pretty impractical daily you can see below.. I grew up riding around in/working on my dad’s ‘80 C10, ‘75 K5 and ‘71 pickup and going to Chevy truck shows, and have always loved squarebodies, but in decent shape they’re just too expensive nowadays for me being a year out of college with expensive hobbies.. Then at the SETN C10 Truck Nationals show a few weeks back a nice 1st gen S10 caught my eye, and the stars aligned. Hasn’t inflated to the moon yet, better on gas and way cheaper/easier to work on than my 350Z, and still has those sweet boxy lines in abundance.

Thought you guys may get a kick out of this - I’ve recently taken up fishing, which is a bit cumbersome when a tiny coupe is your only car..

I’ll definitely get more use out of that now that I can just detach the pontoons and slide it in the back of the Blazer. I’ve braved the interstate a few times like that, but it’s a little too much pucker factor for frequent/long trips lol..

The issues:
Oil cooler lines leaking a bit
Speed sensor at the back of the trans has a slow leak
Freeze plugs going, and some Dexcool sludge in the overflow tank
Heater core leaked & is bypassed
AC is still R12, o-rings shot
Misfire ONLY at idle, gets right up and goes with any throttle input - hoping that’s just a dirty EGR
Motor mounts pretty shot
Starter was on its way out and left her stranded at my parents’ this weekend, but my dad and I got a new one in yesterday.

The plans:
Replace accumulator, orifice tube & o-rings to convert to R134a, and new heater core
Clean EGR & put in a gasket w/screen
Pull the motor - put in all brass freeze plugs, new motor mounts (probably energy suspension?), intake & maybe valve cover gaskets, spark plugs
Thorough coolant system flush
Fix the rest of the little things..
3.5” spindles, 2-3” shackles, AAL and 30’s/31’s
Black OEM fender flares if I can find a set
Matching spare for the back

Here are a few more pics:

Man, I’m pumped to have it.

One thing you need to be aware of. The CPI injection system on your truck uses a spider assembly that is no longer available and I mean it is no longer available. If you run across one at a swap meet or even a complete intake grab it so you have a backup if ever needed.
Otherwise really nice looking truck.
BTW, keep that outside spare assembly well lubricated and go easy on it to prevent quarter panel cracks. Hanging a bigger and heavier spare to look cool could aggravate the situation. Just food for thought.

Thanks for the heads up on both of those, I had read all about the CPI system but just assumed they were easy to come by. Looks like a few of the companies doing remans have okay reviews but not many. Good point about the spare mount too, had no idea that was an issue.

Yo awesome truck.

I would try my best to keep the R12 AC. It will put perform the 134a all day long. I’m talkin meat locker cool.Trust me bro you’ll be thanking me later.

more pics we love the truck!!
I’ll look into it, just seemed like too expensive and hard to find based on posts here but I haven’t actually called around yet.

I haven’t had time to wash it yet and trying not to drive it too much til I get a few things done but trust me I’m working on it. I have a lake trip planned for next weekend that I’d really like to take it on but those freeze plugs are making me nervous haha
