Moog 5664 Now Obsolete, See Thread

It appears that Moog has discontinued the 5664 springs, as searching around the internet seems to bring up very little information on them. The ones I could find for sale are almost double the price of what they were a few years back, so it appears that they're on the "sunset".

This kind of spurred me into research mode as I'm currently working on my '00 Blazer, and plan to dump a 350 into it but keep the front end semi-leveled with the rear. I used Moog's website and started looking for springs that had around the same specs at the 5664 and came up with this:

350035

The original 5664 is listed at the top, and the two possible substitutes are below. The 80098 & 7268 specs don't match up exactly, however the differences between them and the 5664 are very small. See below:

Free Height difference: +0.54 inches
Installed Height difference: +0.52 inches
Inner Diameter difference: -0.08 inches
Bar Diameter difference: +0.02 inches
Spring Rate difference: +41lbs per inch
Load difference: +25lbs

Prices:
Current Moog 5664 Price: $152.73 per Moog's Website
Moog 7268 Price: $87.19 per CarID
Moog 80098 Price: $83.99 per Summit Racing

As you can see, the differences are small enough that they might be negligible. That being said, when it comes to suspension these small differences could be massive when it comes to fitment, comfort, etc. I'd love to hear the input from other forum members, and if you have any information on parts that have the same specs as Moog 5664 from other manufacturers please post them here.

I did find a possible ACdelco alternative, however I have been unable to verify the specs.
The part number for the possible ACdelco alternative is 45H0170. If you have any experience with using this coil in place of the 5664, please let us know!

I was having a lot of trouble finding the MOOG springs I wanted, and ended up getting Belltech 4202 springs for the front of my'97 S10
not that it helps you much...
This is tangential to the original post. However, I do not believe Moog is manufacturing the entire CK Problem Solver set of control arms for RWD S-series vehicles any longer, either. I think I noticed that approximately 2019 or early 2020 when researching a replacement set. 1 of the 4 was already out-of-production, apparently, at that time.

OP, good luck finding an acceptable spring replacement for your application.
I couldn't find any problem solver control arms, so I had to get the regular MOOG control arms when i ordered last week
what's the difference anyway?

AFAIK, Problem Solver (CK) > Regular? (RK) in both quality and price.
the Problem Solver was always listed as more expensive, like $100 CAN more each
the only feature i could find was 'replaceable ball joints'...
often the Moog CK number wouldn't come up in the systems, but the RK numbers did, just none in stock (locally in canada)
I ended up having to order from Rock Auto and have it shipped up

Was the 5664 spring used with the 4cyl. or V6?

I believe it was used with the V6
Not trying to bump an older thread but curious what alternatives are actually good?

I have RPO code C3G which supposedly is a pretty weak coil spring and I have tons of body roll... Was thinking of grabbing 5664 since it has a spring rate of 767 then cut a coil and a half off to keep my current height on my Blazer. Any ideas?
Is your sway bar there?

Well gee... I hope so! 😂

Well with an answer like that Im gonna assume Im stupid for saying something like that so my next thing that I would assume is causing my body roll is my shocks which are Nitro Drop 2s... Shoulda paid the little extra for Belltech Street Performance... I just didnt imagine Drop 2s being this soft...

You wouldn't be the first person to be missing a sway bar.
FYI - O’Reilly’s now carries the “Precision Coil Springs” SP08278 which exactly matches the specs of the Moog 5664. I just bought a set for my ‘94 S10 Blazer 4 door, I’ll update after I try em.

Sorry for reviving, thought it was relevant enough to warrant it.
