Any recommendations for the best source for a metal 3rd door handle? The posts I could find are very old. Thanks for any info.

Yeah I saw that one but the reviews say it's not really metal.
I'm sure all of them have some plastic in them. If it's not what you want....send it back.

That's because you don't need multiple threads for the same question.
This one I use.

Though one I gotten was assembly. Guess time has changed and it isn't available anymore as it used to. The aluminum handle is still worth getting.

IF time is limited for you, what I'd do is grab a assembly from another S-Series/Junkyard. Replace the handle. Swap the assembly whenever you have time so it'll be quick replacing entire assembly.
Just on a related note, like Old Deer Slayer noted that if you push in slightly to release the pressure on the door, it will never break. Never broke mine on my 2001. The seat handles are also exactly like this. If you lift your body weight off the seatback and try to grab the handle more towards the center when you pull on it they won't snap off. It's a crap design by GM and they never bothered to fix it. I don't think I've seen a driver's seat that wasn't broken in years. I never broke mine after breaking the driver one on my ex wife's 2000 Blazer. My truck was 10 years old when I sold it and neither were broken. Gotta handle their garbage with kid gloves for sure.

Actually, they did at least improve upon it in 2002 or 2003. They switched from a split splined shaft to more of a solid D shaft. When I've fixed up seats in the past I've hunted down the newer hinges to upgrade.

Very interesting. Most S-10s i see in the junkyard are at least as old as my 2001. I will have to check that out when I see one newer than mine. Unless wrecked, most of the last 2nd generations are still on the road built after 2000 or so around here. The old ones were definitely crap, but you could keep them from being damaged if you were easy on them. I had owned my truck 8 years when I sold it. I warned the new owner about that. Maybe he didn't break them. I took really good care of that truck. I shudder to think of the condition of it today if it exists. I bet if it's still around it is sitting around with the handles broken...
I still see some of the newer ones broken too, but I'm assuming less so because the design looks much beefier. They also sell the "repair" handles with a longer shank to engage more of the shaft. You can get them in both the splined and D shaped variety, so getting the newer plus the repair handle should be a strong combo.
I installed the JTR Jags That Run handle kit back in 2007 and still working great!
By the way, if you don't know how they got that name, they were a pioneer in installing Vette & IROC style 350 TPI engines in Jaguars and other European cars back in the late 1980's-1990's!
I've used the metal ones from Ebay and had no issues with them. Most of the ones I've found in the yard, are missing or broken. I had the handle break on my new 98, with less then 1000 miles on it.
For the seats, Harbor freight has small vise grips for like $1.50 😬
Thanks for all the good info. I'll order one from Jags that run.
I put a Dorman one on probably over 10 years ago, hasn't broken yet.
