Re: LSx Stock Dyno Graphs 4.8L, 5.3L, 5.7L, 6.0L LS2.

Alright, I've got a dumb question to ask...

On the very first chart in the OP... pointing out the 5.7L in the 'vette... is that 5.7L different than the Vortec 5.7L?

If it is... how hard would it to get a Vortec 5.7L to those numbers? I'm thinking about a small cam (nothing too extreme) and some minor bolt ons when it's in the s10.

Thanks

Yes they are different, these are all LS1 based engines, the Vortec 5.7L is a completely different Gen I style 5.7L.

Any buildup in the V8 section basically can be concidered for the old 5.7L

I think he was asking what is the difference in what you are showing between the 5.3 and the 1998 5.7 Corvette with a Gen III, at least that is what I got out of it. Very nice thread, thanks for posting the info ;-)

I havent had an LQ4 as of yet on the dyno.

Well I have but it was on and engine dyno and had L92 heads, which isnt fair for this thread.

Yup, I got 24mpg w/o a MPG tune. I could pick up more with a leaner A/F ratio and optimizing timing.

Black X runs 9s and gets 27-28MPG

Like SweetS10V8 said, they are different engine generations. But, the Vortec 5.7 is the most advanced stock non-LS style V8. While they dont make the same hp, the torque curve is much higher in lower RPM. Im my opinion, however humble it may be, is that if you ar looking for a high hp street or strip machine, go with the LS based engines. If you just want a more powerful and more versitile S10 for towing or offroad, go with the Vortec 5.7. Thats what Im planning but I have always been partial to the 5.7.

new to the board, but from what i can tell, Black X could probably get 800 hp and 30 mpg out of a 4 banger cavalier!

this guy is either awesome or rich, or both! lol

hoping to v8 my sonoma some day, funds aren't available right now though. until then,i'll just keep looking and soaking up knowledge!

Any graphs for the LQ4 yet?

What was the difference in power between the 1999-2000 iron LQ4 to the 2001-2005 aluminum LQ4?

Just in case I am the only one.... I picked up an LQ4 from a 2004 Sierra 2500 truck and it was a cast iron block. I think all the LQ4 and the LQ9's are all iron blocks with the 317 heads.

I have a friend w/ the LQ9 in the 2500 HD pick up and his is a cast iron block to. Can anyone else verify this information?

BTW, I would really be interested in the LQ4 dyno graphs as well.... if anyone has one?

Re: LSx Stock Dyno Graphs 4.8L, 5.3L, 5.7L, 6.0L LS2.

Gonna add this to the information here just for everyones info.

This is my daily driver 2005 GTO.
Stock VS. tuned
No other changes

Stock timing was 21* as you can see very rich. I leaned it up to about 12.5 and went to 26* I am only on midgrade fuel. Being the daily im not concerned with huge numbers

Adding to the above for informational puposes. Above was Bone stock VS. Stock with my tune.

Below is a very mild Cam and header setup in my car. VS. Stock With a tune.
Camshaft 222/226 .575/.575 112LSA, Pace setter 1.75" Longtubes, Magnaflow Catback and the FAST 90mm off my truck.

The Most impressive part is the TQ gain. You can see it and feel it everywhere. Noticeable idle but it drives like stock.

Could have made a lot more with a bigger cam but its not what i wanted for this car.
