I'll second that a 4.8 can make damn decent power. Mine had a hair under 300 from the factory, it came with a GMPP exhaust, and I've added a K&N cold air and a Diablosport tuner. It gets around pretty well. That power in an S10 would really move.
Not only does it move, but when put in a 4-door ZR5 it still gets 24mpg on the highway. What more could a 16 year old teenage girl need? A dependable V8, 300hp/310lb-ft at the flywheel and good gas mileage out of a 4x4 mini truck.

The one I have is an '07, so probably 06-07ish....

would it be woth it to swap out the stock heads for a set of ls6 heads or would that result in a drop in compression? would it be better to just have my heads done? or would it even be worth it to get them done or should I just save up for some stage 2 or 3 heads?

I can get some ls6 heads for around 500 if it makes any difference.

stock 2003 5.3l

I have a ls6 cam on the way and want to give the engine some grunt before it gets put in. I would like to make 350rwhp or more, but I will only be building up the top end of the engine this build. heads, cam, intake, etc. the engine only has 9000 on the od so I don't really want to tear in to the shortblock.

I would start with a FAST LSX intake manifold. Here is what it did for my truck, with no other mods or tuning. I just simply bolted it on and made another pull. It gained 27hp.

Was that a 78, 90, or 92 FAST? Was that just the manifold or was that with the matching throttle body?

You got me thinking I need to sell the LS6 manifold that I just bought....

It was the FAST 90mm Intake with a 90mm GM drive by wire throttle body.

6.0L Escalades are LQ9s. They are rated around 345hp IIRC. Its the same engine thats in Silverado SS, and Silverado Max trucks

Thanks for the info. My dad has one he wants to put in an old hot rod, but i'm trying to talk him into putting it in one of my s-10s

i will be starting my build as soon as i find a single cab s10/sonoma...lol

i already have a 6.0l iron block with all forged internals and a ls6 crank, 317 heads ported with 30 thousands off, and a complete ls6 intake, along with a built 4l60e and all the wiring and computer out of a wrecked trans am!!!

and as soon as it is together i can post a dyno sheet of it N/A and W/ nitrous!!!

Gonna add this to the information here just for everyones info.

This is my daily driver 2005 GTO.
Stock VS. tuned
No other changes
Stock VS. Pretty mild tune.

Stock timing was 21* as you can see very rich. I leaned it up to about 12.5 and went to 26* I am only on midgrade fuel. Being the daily im not concerned with huge numbers

Wow! That's some nice power you're making there with your 'daily driver' BlackX. I could only wish that my s10 will make that much power and torque. I have a 2001 5.3L with a VRX2 Camshaft, comp 918 valvsprings (.615 lift)standard height pushrods, and LS2 ported/shimmed oil pump all from Vengeance Racing. Also, I have a 2600 stall converter with 8.5/8.8 rear end with 3.73's. So, with the performance installs, I figure my 5.3L will get around high 300's in HP and TP... You think?

.....what........you have a GOAT tooo??? those are nice numbers for a near stock engine. I love my LS1, but I keep hearing how much TQ the LS2's seem to have and how seamless the delivery is. 6 spd?? Auto? Has to be an auto to keep that dyno curve so nice and purdy!!

I will add my dyno numbers as well for my LS1

Looks Like your car is making excellent power Nate. Mine is a 6 speed car and the power delivery is amazing. I really love that car.....
