I am new to the forum and i did some searching but could not find anyone with a LS1 in a 1992 or that style truck. I was wondering if it is possible and if so how hard it would be to do. Next i was wondering if you had to use the 4L6OE or if you could use the 700-R4. I was also wondering which one was better. If anyone has information about this or any sites that will help me. Thank you.I may sound dumb from this post but i have been involved in the foreign market forever and know very little about american cars. But i love chevys and v-8's.
-Thanks

hey. and welcome to the forum.

first off, the style of truck you are thinking is often called a first gen. (first generation s10, produced 1982-1993 for the s10, and 1982-1994 for the blazer)

the best way to tackle this kind of a swap is to find a car that was in an accident and pull out the motor, trans, computer, ecu, and all of the other wiring.

the 4L60E is an electronic version of the 700R4. there are many sites and threads that cover this kind of a topic. but unfortunately i don't have very much information to divulge, at least it gave a you bump to the top of the section. you'll find there are some extremely knowledgable and helpful guys on this forum. some will be willing to walk you through the entire swap, and give you hints and tips along the way.

later,

thank you. I thought that the 4L6OE was the same as the 700-R4. The truck i want to do it to was my first car. It came with a 2.8. i got a new car as soon as possible (because it was so slow.) but i have always liked the way it looked and my parents kept it in storage for me. Well now i wanna rip it apart and try to copy my friend. He has a 1992 S-10 Blazer with a LT-1 and 700-R4(I have to beat him). Thank you for replying.
-thanks

First off you want to check out the following links

then if you are still interested in this motor swap. You will need the corvette accessories and brackets. If you are running A/C you will have to notch the frame quite a bit or you have to find a way to make or buy a high mount A/C bracket. You will have to notch the crossmember for the oil pan. the 5.3 truck oil pan is what most use. The manual by v8s10s is good hits most of the points and detailed with fuel system, AC, and wire by wire list for engine harness. It's not a part by part install, for a first timer. I suggest get a how-to swap a 350 book if you aren't sure about what to do.

Yup, http://www.v8s10s.com/lid1.html Its for a 2nd gen, there isnt ever a manual for your exact year. You have to be able to do some thinking on your own, but that will get you through the hardest parts. Then you can just order a wiring harness from Jared, at Current Performance, and he will make it specifically for the year of your truck so you just plug it all in and go.
