Thanks Greencactus3, my block does have the boss for it. It was covered with a funky bracket so I couldn't see it. Looks to me like this is simply a straight through hole and no tapering or beveling. Is this correct? If so, I'll give it a shot.

Also, did you drill this from the top with the engine sitting upright? Or did you flip the engine over as in picture and drill up at the correct angle to miss the filter pickup tubing? Looks like it may be easier to drill up in this case.
Thanks for letting us know your experience with it.

Still pursuing the best oil pan. So it looks like my best bet will be the vette LS2 pan. I found one, but the part # is different from originally posted, which doesn't surprise me as that post is over 9 years old. The part # I cam across is 12624617 which says it fits 05-12 LS2 and LS3. Does this sound like the same oil pan?

So, to be clear. Does the Holley LSx pan sit higher than the cross member and fit without notching the frame for a LQ9?
Holley pan sits about 1/4" above the cross member. Most people notch to allow installing the engine and trans together. It also allows having the engine forward, away from the firewall. I've seen few builds where they didn't notch.
