It'll be worth the money. Especially if you can get it dyno tuned for that price. If it's not on a dyno, keep your cash. Mail order tunes are a shot in the dark.
1000 million times worth it to have it fully dyno tuned. Don't use some cheap $300 mail in tune either. There is no way those are 100% correct for your vehicle. They'll get you close, but you could be missing 50hp for no reason. I do tuning. But I still have my tunes put on the dyno for the final runs so I can 'see' what's going on. Expect to pay at least $600 for a good reliable dyno tuner. My last tune, less then 45 days ago, was $750.I have a 5.7 LS1 with a Current Performance ECU/harness. No big power adding mods have been made to the engine. I don't know a whole lot about tuning so I don't know how much of a difference a professional tune would make compared to the base tune the ECU came loaded with. Does anyone have any experience with this? Should I leave the base tune or would it be worth the $300+ to get it tuned?
I have a guy that said just $350 for a Dyno tune... Interesting.1000 million times worth it to have it fully dyno tuned. Don't use some cheap $300 mail in tune either. It is hard to believe you pickup up a 75 hp gain on a stock L33. I did a search and most guys were saying 15 hp with a stock engine. Was you gain after adding LS6 intake, dual exhaust etc?I picked up 75hp...I'm sure there is more waiting to be unleashed. It's running pretty rich right now so I'm goin g to take it back for a few adjustments.
Well, if you’re cheap, I can understand that. But nowhere in my sentence did I say I paid for a stock engine to be tuned. And I’m not belittling you, merely stating the fact that things cost differently in various parts of the country. Also, labor costs money, $750 for a full day of custom tuning is actually pretty cheap. But, again, were not talking about stock drivetrains here.I can't see you gaining that much from what you say is a basically stock engine. Think of it as hp per dollar spent, $350 ok, $ 750 hell no!
You did a search? The guy literally told you how much he gained, and he has the dyno sheet to prove it. But, the internet says no, can’t be true, so it must not be. Again, not belittling you, but, you should spend some time at the local dyno shop and make some friends. There is a reason good, reliable tuners can get what they do from stock combos. The factory settings have been proven to be underrated to make a 100,000 mile warranty last.It is hard to believe you pickup up a 75 hp gain on a stock L33. But consider that I have a lot of supporting mods to make the swap work, like a custom intake and catless exhaust. I think I have 20-30 horsepower hiding in thereI'm only telling you what I found after doing a search on the internet of various stock V8 engines. Specifically a 5.7 Hemi and an LS1 by the people that owned them. Here's a link to typical articles I found How Much HP Can You Gain From a Dyno Tune? | Car Performance Boss
I agree, and Rhotpursuit's L33 has free flow exhaust, LS6 intake...but I was referencing a stock 5.3. I find it hard to believe the factory would leave 75 hp un-tapped.But consider that I have a lot of supporting mods to make the swap work, like a custom intake and catless exhaust.
