First this is for 2nd Gen. ext. cab trucks, other years and reg. cabs will be similar. I have a 2000 Sonoma and I swapped to '01 Jimmy Leather, heated, 8 way power/memory seats(with lumbar support). They are basically a direct bolt on other than some wiring.
I am going to show you how I did this swap, this will be a guide for the first timer people, you can do the wiring however you want and I am not liable for any fires:haha:
The swap...First I removed my old seats..
Started like this..
Remove the screws from the trim pieces..
The clips might not come off with the trim pieces, you may have to remove them with a screwdriver...
Use penetrant on the nuts/bolts...
I had to use an air hammer to drive out the driver side bolt(not fun)..
Remove 3 15mm hex head nuts on both driver and passenger seats..
To Remove the center console, remove 2 nuts in the back..
..and 1 nut in the front under the rubber tray..
..and now the console lifts out.
Then took the driver seat out after removing the hardware...
Both seats out..
To install the new seats, nothing has to be changed, just reverse the removal steps.
Now the wiring..you can do this however you want like I said and run it wherever you want. Also you can get power from wherever you want just make sure it's fused!!
Remove the lower dash under the steeringwheel, just a bunch of 7mm hex head screws. Now you can access behind the fuse block/panel.
I found this wiring harness and traced the wires to the fuse block and found out which one is a switched 12V source for the heated seats..
Made sure I had a 12v source when the Ignition is on so if I leave the heat on by accident or it gets bumped on my way out..it wont kill the battery...
Next I T'd off that 12v switched wire and ran the wire to a fuse then under the dash and out to the seats..
Fuse holder(right side of fuse block)..
Next you need a 12v source that is Hot at all times to power the seats(this is my option, you can have it on a switched 12v source or have a main switch to turn the seat power on, but the switches are "spring return" meaning the switch on the seats will always go back to the off position when you let go of them.
I got my 12v source from the fuse block in the engine compartment...
I used a fuse right after the connection and ran the wire down through the big grommet on the firewall(note the wire loom, always a good idea)...
inside shot...
Used wire loom and ran both switched 12v wire and 12v constant wire to the middle of the seats...
Next I took the harnesses from the new seats off and ran the power wires from my 12v sources to them, take the black/white wire off the old harness and transfer it to the new harness for the seatbelt light..
Wires..
Big Orange= 12v constant (battery, fused)
2 small Orange= 12v constant, fused (can wire together with big orange wire)
2 small Brown= 12v switched, fused (Power only when Ignition is on) for heat.
Big black wire= Ground (run to a seat bolt or stud inside the console like I did)
Small Brown/White= To control module for memory( I did not use as you need to re-flash your BCM to use the memory option)
The passenger seat is the same minus the seatbelt wire and control module wire. You can run jumper wires from the driver seat connections, that's what I did.
Wires for the seats(wire loomed up, and make sure no wires get crushed when the seats move)..
Next I had to cut the console so the wires fit through an opening, I used a dremel...
the front was trimmed a tiny bit but you dont need to.
Center Console back in...
Next I trimmed the old seat trim pieces to make them fit, if I didn't the new seat tracks would hit...
You also have to cut off the front bracket on the trim piece for the driver side if you are going to use it.
Passenger seat I just used the old cap from one of the nuts..just to clean it up.
And seats are finished....
All the way forward...
Test them out make sure all the wires move freely, check the heat settings, Hi and Low. And also the lumbar.
Old seats...
I hope I gave some good tips for people wanting to do this swap, I just thought I would put this together insead of searching allover for different answers. If you have any questions just ask.
Thanks for looking
