I am looking for some bass for my 1990 S-10. My question is which subs would do a better job? a comp VT10 $130.00, comp VT12 $160.00 made by KICKER or 2 10'' MTX's for $120.00.

I've installed 2 Alpine mrp-m450's. One was in the trunk of an 05 cobalt pushing an RF P3-12 in a 1.5 cube box tuned to 32. It saw a 2 ohm load, so it was supposedly pushing 400 watts. I wasn't impressed.

The other was in the trunk of a 90 accord. It was pushing a 10" Type R dual 4 in a 1.2 cube box tuned to 35. It also saw a 2 ohm load. Again, I wasn't impressed.

I have also installed a few Kicker zx400.1's...and those bastards are awesome. A recent one was in the cargo area of a Land Rover pushing a 10" kicker CVR in a 1.2 cube sealed box. That sounded a hell of a lot louder and cleaner than the other setups I mentioned earlier.

Another one was in the trunk of another 90's accord pushing 2 12" MTX 4500 in the thunder box they come in, whatever that's tuned to. The kid returned it because it was too loud.

I don't like alpine amps. I love Kicker zx amps to death.

I had mtx subs when they had the 6000,8000 series and those subs were good until they went out, which didnt take long.
Ive had the kicker comp vr, and now have the comp vx (the new round solobarics) they are nice woofers. The vrs are nice also i had 1500w on 4 comp vrs where i have 1500w to each pair of comp vx. If you dont have much power 200-400wrms per sub go with the comp vr.. If you can get 500+ per sub go with the comp vx. Either sub will work in 1.75-2.25 ported or 1+ sealed...
