Hope someone finds this. Is there a seal that can be replaced on the input bearing that is accessed without disassembling the transmission, perhaps on the retainer? My current tranny with 205k on it has bad synchros so I found a donor trans for $100 near me and picked it up. Donor is wet all over, output seal definitely shot, bell housing is soaked inside and out. I can’t tell if it’s from a bad rear main seal from the original engine or a bad input bearing seal. If it’s possible to replace just the seal that would be amazing. With the tranny swap I will be replacing complete hydraulic clutch system, clutch, pressure plate, flywheel, pilot bushing, output seal.

‘03, didn’t think the year would matter since the tranny is virtually identical for all NV1500. Thanks for the reply, found it at autozone for $3.59.So this seal and some RTV around the retainer and I should be good to go?

Yes, that matchs up with the RA part numbers, which, is usually the case with Duralast part numbers.

Make sure you check for play in the input shaft bearing before you seal the retainer up. Now would be the time to replace a worn input shaft bearing if needed.

Thanks brother. I will check the bearing, how much play is exceptable. It does have a bit i can feel without even removing the retainer.

Not sure what the specs are for excessive play, but use your judgement. If it feels sloppy, err on the side of caution and replace it. If you rotate the input shaft and feel any binding or "sticking" at any point, or if it makes funny noises, replace it. It's a sealed bearing, so there isn't much you can visually see nor check, unless the seal is displaced or damaged:
