hey, im interested in puttin hydraulics on my truck, and i was wondering what the best way to go about putting together a system would be. i was looking at www.prohopper.com 's kits, and i came across this one

its a FBSS kit, is that the same thing as an airbag kit, just using hydraulics instead of air? and would it be EVERYTHING i needed to put it on? or would there be more? thanks, and please excuse any n00bliness ive displayed here, i have 0 knowledge of suspension, hydraulics especially

also, i'd be very interested in 3-wheeling, would that be possible w/ that kit?

That's a good kit, except, you will only need (2) cups, and you will need a set of skinny coils (<----link)
and some way to mount the end of the ram to the axle, which I suggest this right here ...


As far as 3 wheeling, you will can do a 3 wheel motion, but you won't be able to do a standing 3 wheel unless you add at least one more pump and a chain bridge.

This won't be like bags, because you won't have true side to side. You will have to raise the entire truck and then dump the side you want down. With 2 pumps (one to the front and one on the rear) you will only be able to raise just the front / rear. you can't raise just lhe left or right side. To do that you will have to add 2 more pumps (one for each wheel).

And you will want to check into a prewired switch box. They are not that expensive, and it will save you the hassle of wiring up the switches that they send you...(wiring one is not fun...)

im curious about this as well. Do you need a link setup? or any of that stuff that you'd need with bags? Im also trying to decide but im unsure at the moment. Reason im staying away from bags at the moment is due to i dont want to have to weld in a link/notch/get the bags to sit right etc etc. My buddy has an 89 caprice on juice an he said its pretty much bolt on w. juice, how true is this? (what i mean by bolt on is that no MAJOR welding an stuff is required)

having coil springs all the way around probably makes it easier than converting from leafs.

in a way yes it is the same as an air bag set-up, but instead of psi ratings, you add more batts to get higher. Not, you still need mounting brackets and batt tray, plus batteries.You could do that, but you would need to add in 4 batteries to ea. pump.

Actully, you can get by with 4, 6, or even 8...

But I wouldn't separate batteries to go to either the front or the back...

What you will want to do is take the first battery and ground it, and hook the positive to the negative termanal of the second battery.

On the third battery, ground it, and take the positive to the neg. terminal on the 4th battery.

And again, ground the 5th battery, and hook the + to the neg on the 6th battery.

Now hook the + from 2nd, 4th, and 6th battery to the first solenoid going to one pump, and make a small jumper to the first solenoid going to the other pump.

What you have done is make (6) 12 v batterys into (3) 24 v batteries, and by hooking the positives from each "24" volt battey, they will drain evenly, and you won't have either the front or the back moving slow while the other is still quick...

true, but he could also run a quick disconnect and have the full use of all his batts... but it'd run out of juice more faster.

you can get good sides w/ 2 pump-4 dump setup, but only to drop the sides. to get side 2 side, you need at least 4 pumps. good thing about two is that you can always add 2 more, reconfigure your plumbing, and rewire it for 4 pumps in a matter of a few minutes...... one pump setup would be too much strain on the pumphead and motor...

AUGUSTA GA IN THE HOUSE HI MAN AM MIKE AM A X EMPL OF RED'S HYDRO DOWN IN CAL , i have a couple of rides with hydro's on them i have a 89 hard top ford mustang with a 3 pump set up on it with 3 wheel 4 foot off the ground also my 84 s10 has a 4 pump set up with 3 wheel off the ground at 4 1/2 feet off the ground , if you are anting to get into the hydro 's its best to go with a hopper pump that is the best the pump an motor can take the stran a lot better an last a lot longer also you can also run that 3 pump set up on the s10 an get three wheel eazy , but frist you need to know what side of your truck you are wanting it on , also what size cylinders you are going with in the front the best , is to run with 12inch in the front an run 15 inch the back , also you need to ask you self how fast do you what it do work a hydro pump is desided to take up to 48 volts prue pump , to cut this short telll you like this i would reather PUSH a HRYDO ride THEN drive A bag ride THATS JUST ME if you would like me to give you a lot help on things you will need an what kit to get an what battreys to run just email me at [email protected] i would like to help any way i can .

i got 8inch cylinders w/ 3 1/2 ton hopping coils up front, and they do just fine...... 12's sound a little overkill. the a-arms lock up well before that amount of distance. i've seen 10's up frnt, but that is still cutting it close to too much

You can do side to side with 2 pumps. you raise the whole vehicle and pick which side you wish to dump. 3 wheeling will involve chaining or turing to shift the weight of the vehicle which is a lil dangerous. If you have one pump you can go 2 different ways. Either wire it up where the back comes up first and then the front or where one side comes all the way up and then the other. You can also wire up your 2 pumps like that. But coming up one side and then the other side all the time can get annoying. Most dumps are 24v so you really only need 2 batteries per pump to operate. If you add more it will just make you dro's faster, making it easier to hop. This also puts more of a strain on your pumps cause it creates more heat.
