Mail order tunes suck.
But, many of my friends need them to get their combo fired up and onto a trailer.
Removing VATS, o2 sensors, manual to auto or vise versa, it makes sense to do it on the counter, instead of pluggin the ECM into a random vehicle to use that vehicles ADL plug.

I'll put this together step by step, for those who want to build a bench harness for the 0411 style gen 3 and 4 LS computers.

I did this for my swap and it was way easier than I expected. Used pcmhammer and tuner pro to delete vats and egr and that sort of stuff to get a base tune. Spent 20$ on the harness and pcm at the salvage yard. Much cheaper than hptuners or the holley alternatives.

These are super useful and far easier than it appears to make them. My latest setup is expandable, so I can test/setup BCM, Air Bag sensors, and I'm always adding more.
ive never had the need to test anything else, but, it is very cool it is easily expandable. That is really helpful, and pretty awesome overall..

I sell quite a few used parts and it helps reduce returns and standout from anyone who doesn't test. Definitely worth the time and has come in handy for a few other things.

Once you have the ECM harness it's as simple as tying in the Communication circuit and making sure the other module gets power/ground.

The ECM has been tested by various people and it appears when uploading or downloading it pulls 1.1 amps max. So to be on the safe side i sourced this power supploy off of xxxzon as it has 5 amps max, which is more than adequate for tuning needs.

For ECM tuning, we are only interested in the connector with pins 1 through 80.
You can buy new ECM plugs online, but getting them from the parts yard is they come with the wiring you need already installed.
The grey colored wire protector pops off easily with a small flat head screwdriver, and same for the two blue plastic pieces underneath of the grey one.
The blue pieces job is to secure the wiring pins in their respective slot so they dont move or come dislodged.

Now the fun part, pulling all the wiring out. You can go forward or backwards with the wires. Sometimes it’s easy to lift the retainer with small screwdriver and pull the wiring backwards. Sometimes it's easier to push the wiring through the entire connector, sometimes you need to do both.

We are only interested in keeping pins 1, 18, 19, 20, 58

Nice write up! So you only need the 4 wires to the same C1 connector and the C2 is just left blank.

What do you think would happen if on a factory PCM if pins 58 & 59 are switched?

according to the internet:
58DK GRN1049Class 2 Serial Data
59YEL710Class 2 Serial Data

i have never used the other pin, but it could work, since they are both class 2 data.. but, again, i have never tried.

Pin 58 is for serial data on the OBDII and pin 59 goes to the BCM. CPW has them switched and my alternator light stays on. I'll get around to switching them when it warms up.

Another option is grab one of the leftover wall warts that's been sitting in the closet for a few years. Just need to check the output for 12V and enough current.

This is what I did. The PCMs I was playing with looked like they we're pulling about 800 miliamps when reading and writing. So I found an old 12 volt power supply in a box of old computer wires and phone chargers that could cover that. Knew hoarding that junk would pay off some day!

I ran up to the locla parts yard and grabbed a few ALDL plugs, hand twisted some wires together and grabbed a couple of 0411 ECMs to try out the set up.
Works great. I even put the pink and orange wires together so it comes right on with inserting the 110ac power supply plug. Wasnt sure if that would work or not, or be safe in the long run. I might add a small on/off switch at a later date.
I licensed one of the 0411s and will be tuning it for a swap im working on. I need to go back and find a few P59 computers as i sold the last one about a month ago.
