How would I go about using my factory 2.2 harness and using it with the 5.3s harness? I've started working a bit on the ls swap and I know a bit of wiring, I debated getting the CPW harness but I figured I would try a custom standalone harness first and save the money for something else down the road, just wasn't 100% sure on every step I'd need to take so I figured to ask for some guidance on it.

Lots of people try, get discouraged, and call CPW. People seem to think that because it’s not mechanical, they can just splice a few wires and call it a day.
There are a few here that have jumped off the deep end and gave it a shot. You can try a search on the site, but everyone’s swap is different.

The wire harness and PCM are the heart and veins to the whole project. I am an ASE Certified Master-Tech. I could have easily spent 50-100 hours doing a harness. I chose to use a CPW custom complete harness for my project because of the time element and frustration level.
What I did learn is that the year of the vehicle, PCM & tune need to be compatible. I wish I had know that my original 0411 PCM could have been used. I thought that the 2004 Trailblazer P59 had to be used for the engine. The 0411 would have been a better choice for the vehicle. So now I know that either PCM would have worked. The 2005 Silverado tune file that CPW sold me was not the best choice.
So I would say: read all you can find on harness repair on this forum. I also made a couple of posts that I made after startup and some code issues and getting some bugs out.

We played 20 questions with CPW...maybe more, about exactly what we were using. The harness we received worked as advertised. We also used a P59 IIRC @Harley cleaned up some the the wire lengths, but other than that, I don't recall any issues other that the tach not working. I don't know about other years, but on my '96, the tach wire needed a pull up resistor. After that was installed, it worked fine.

Not to be a contrarian, but I built my own stand alone harness. I know there are other folks on the forums who have done the same. I didn't find it wholly difficult or anything like that, just time consuming and tedious. For me it came down to price. Building my own was about 500 bucks cheaper than splurging for CPW.

There are a bunch of great resources for this out there. lt1swap.com was super helpful. A ton of youtube videos that spell out the process too.

Very nice that's what the OP is looking for. Guy's that have done there own harness that may be able to share some information.
Your right LT1Swap is a good source of information. I wish I had learned about him before the end of my project.

I played 20 questions with them too. I think my salesman was new and didn't know how to guide someone new. The current tune I'm going to use has an option for "12V pullup" or "no pullup". So that is good to know..

The 12V pull up requires that you build that into the harness. It's simply a resistor between 2 wires.
For $100 I'll tell you which 2 wires and what size resistor. Heck I'll even throw in the resistor. They come in packs of 10, so I still have 9.
Or you could search Google or lstech.com and find the info just like I did.
Randy, you can PM me for the info (1K c2 10 c1 19).

on my 1995, i removed every piece of wire from the truck and threw it all in the trash.
i installed a 'gm tilt' column from ididit, and then bought a speedway wiring harness and rewired my truck with how i wanted it.
Next i installed my '5.3' and used a standalone wiring harness.
for guages i used a bluetooth to my phone and used my phone for gauges.
(i do have dakota digital gauges) but, its so quick and easy with the dash removed to use the $20 bluetooth module for gauges.

Would something like this: https://lt1swap.com/gmt400swap/index.htm be what I need? Since the truck is a 2.2 bellhousings are different on the 4L60E so I plan on using the 4L80E, it seems he only mentions the 4.3 so just wanted to make sure that it's not too different wire wise.

Don't use the Cpw piece of s***t harness and save yourself $1000.00 plus. If you decide to waste your money DONT USE JOE .He has no idea what he is doing.

Just because you had a bad experience doesn’t mean CPW is a bad company. If they were, they’d be out of business.

My CPW harness has been good to go so far too. Every connector was labeled, they used premium wire & OE connectors. The only thing that needed changed was where the MAP sensor connector came out. I sent CPW tech an email & a picture of the trouble. We concurred that cutting the harness cover where the wire came out and allowing it to exit father back was the fix. They sent me a roll of the tape they use and a 2ft piece of the covering. It only took 10 minutes to fix it.
I do agree that a knowledgeable salesman is a key component to any sale though.

Yeah, you tend to rail against anyone or anything that doesn't hold your same opinion. Unfortunately this site is a bit of an echo chamber save a hand full of guys (ODS Transman and a few more I can't remember their names) compared to most classic car sites. Thank God for the search feature to find old posts with real info. If you saw the BS we dealt with on tcmbg's harness I doubt you would hold them in as high regard as you do. Can they do good work, certainly, my harness had just a few flaws but at $1,000 it should have been perfect and the tech support should have been dead on. IMO. Suggesting pulling the charge light bulb out instead of figuring out why it's on is amateur hour. Not knowing and disclosing compatibility issues on your $1K harness is amateur hour. Responding to tech requests about a flaw you've posted about in the forums (and never corrected) as if you had no idea what it is, is amateur hour.

Getting butthurt and defensive because someone went a different route or has a different take on a product is just silly in the internet age. Too many ways to skin the V8 S10 cat to react this way. ;). Maybe just stick to over reacting to grammar and spelling errors if different opinions spin you up?

Show me where I railed against anyone, or was butthurt or defensive. I was just stating my opinion and experience. Just because tcmbg had a bad experience doesn't mean we all did. We called a couple of times and had great support.
I'm sure you can get quality advice on fb if you'd rather go there. Let me know if you need directions to the door.

You're going to have to explain that FB stuff to me. This is second time you said that. Am I supposed to be insulted by it because I don't really go there, is it weird? I know the old folks think it's the all the rage but I never got hooked. As far as showing me the door, you are a moderator (even though you do it poorly) so that that would be your call. Really doesn't matter much to me either way, do your thing if that's your call, but threats about silly crap like that at your age just seems a bit childish. Do, or don't do ;)

That the best you've got? Now I'm butthurt....😭 This thread has been derailed enough...back on topic.
