i was given a truck for free a 1991 gmc sonoma, it has the usual rust for a michigan car and a thrown rod. I was wondering if this truck would be worth fixing and how much it would be to rebuild the engine myself -its a non vortec 4.3

much can be done to this engine, depends on how nuts you want to get. wo/any mods and doing the work your self should only cost a few hundred. there are a few rebuild kits out there for it. check summit or jeggs.

Machine work is expensive so i was wondering if not a full rebuild would it alright to just stick a new crank and pushrods as long as the bearings wern't worn too bad i had a friend that had over 100000 miles and the bearings were still within factory specs

I just got a new long block and it wasn't that bad, ($1800), i have found rebuild kits for around $700, it is well worth the money.
