how do you remove the plastic airbag cover thing. its like a rounded rectangle on the passenger side of a 98 chevy s-10. are they clips or what? there is also another piece ive been trying to figure out how to remove. its the plastic piece that goes AROUND the passenger side vent. not the vent itself which just pops out, but the piece that surrounds it. im trying to get that SOB painted. thanks. if you can answer these questions then you are a pimp. haha

LOL thanks for the compliment on my avatar. anyways, yeah im in san jessy. its really slow with the trucks out here, but you already know that. I am in E.M.A Customs. We are pretty small with only about 5 members, but we are all bagged, and all laying frame (with the exception of me due to my FATTY tires) where are you from? where in the bay? If you are in san jessy, we should kick it.

panel out

Ok....I have a 2000 sonoma and took the panel off.

I guess it depends on what you are thinking of doing. I also took the airbag out. I am planning on putting my ps2 in there which may require some additional moving around of things.

Anyway........I first wanted to see what was going on in there as far as space. You are not going to be able to pop it open because there arent any type of clips holding it in. I stuck a flat head screw driver in there and pried it open until the top hook-ups sapped.

Sounds nasty but it was able to be pushed down and pushed back up in place like a glove box without any damage to the dash or bag. You may wanna switch the airbag off or disconnect the battery before going anywhere near it so it doesnt blowup in your face.

Now that my air bag is out and the plate is snapped off totally I may have to put some velcro to keep it up or just snug it up when I put the material in the now airbagless hole.

Hope this helps.....if anything it will prove to you it can be done!!

re: Removing Airbag

Did you remove the airbag simply by prying it out or did you remove everything below it first (i.e. Glovebox, panels, etc.) to get underneath & behind it to pop it out?

Thanks in advance,

airbag out

I was able to pry the panel out with out removing anything. If you wanna take the whole air bag out it is a major hassel. It has two bolts high up that are a major pain and yess the glove box need to come off. I used my own method to get the bag out :bash: but as I said in the other post once the material is in there it will look fine. I have some pics of the whole ordeal but they are still on the roll.

I know you can get a good buck if you can save the airbag so if you can try to get it out properly.

Plastic cover off

I was replying to the other guy I think....lol....but....

To remove that plastic part that says air bag, you will have to go along the groove and stick the flat head screw driver in and pull it off snapping the factory snaps(there is no way to pop them off) Becareful not to bend it in half and crease it. Once it is all the way off you may need to use velcro strips to get it to stay in place not sure on that since mine is all the way off. Also I am not sure on the safty factor if that thing should blow instead of bending off like it would normally it is going to shoot off. Could be dangerous but just dont wreck the truck?!?

Hope this helps you out!!

I think I may have an extra one of those Airbag switches to control the passenger's bag. If not, I remember seeing one on eBay a while ago.

PM me if you're interested and you can have it for like $15
