1st Gen S-10 should be no different than a 1st Gen Blaze.

But, you made this look simple. It makes me want to do it, but I don't know how to weld and I don't have access to any welding equipment. How about you suicide my doors for me?

yeah itll work on a 1st gen s10... the only thing about using this style hinge is where the back of the hinge gets bolted to the cab... you will have to bolt the back of the hinge to the back of the cab and there will be a bolt head between the bed and the cab...

there is no welding required to perform the mod... the only welding needed will be on the bodywork side to fill in the holes...

you dont need to waste that much money on those hinges for your hood... you can get a set of hood hinges from a mid 80s Buick LeSabre to suicide your hood... check my sig for a link to my how-to on it...

Very Imformative write up! Thanks! I really wanna suicide one of my doors, but it just seams like a lot of work to do. I really wanna do it on my 65 1/2 ton. Sinse I already shaved my door handles and have yet to wire my stuff it would probably be much easier, then on a new Sdime, but still more work then I want I think.

i dunno, doesnt appeal to me very much. #1 the hinges should have been closer to the outside skin of the body, the closer the better. #2 notching out the inner wall of the cab is pretty lame, not everyone is going to make custom panels and they shouldnt have to, moving the the hinges closer to the outside would have helped. #3 bolting in the pockets doesnt seem very good, i would have welded everything..you need to weld the striker and clasp back into the door and then weld up all the holes from the old stuff so i dont see why you wouldnt just weld everything in, doesnt make much sense to put so much effort into bolting it on. #4 the inner door skin might need some more support (plating) on the bottom because its quite flimsy; also i would have made pockets for the hinges to sit into, moving them closer to the outside. #5 i dont see why you couldnt use all three bolts on each hinge, it looks like theres enough room there. i would have at least drilled another hole closer in if you couldnt use that one..

of course those are all my 'opinions' and i know youre not the author but you say you did it the same way so maybe you have some insight..

Well this setup may not be for everyone... it works for me cuz i dont have much money to dump into a $300 suicide door kit... and i dont have access to a welder... the body work side i can find someone to weld up the holes from the stock hinges and striker...

#2... unfortunatley there isnt enough room to move the hinges in enough to get away from notching the inner wall... again when ya dont have access to some resources, you make due with what ya can...

#3... bolting the hinges to the doorframe isnt a problem. they were a bolton hinge originally and as long as it is reinforced properly it wont be a problem... as for the striker... it was originally bolted to the door frame anyway for adjustability so dont see why it would have to be welded...t the latch was also bolted to the door...

#4.. the support plate on the door is fine as well.... i actually went with a thinner piece of plate... again due to resources... but seems too work well... the door is supported well and doesnt sag or flex at all..

#5... as for the bolts on the hinge... i actually used all 3 bolts on the hinge.... just didnt make the change to the how-to...

Again this mod may not be for everyone... it worked for the author as well as me... and can work for anyone who doesnt wanna drop a few hundred on a suicide kit, but wants suicide doors... plus me personally, would rather make something work from another vehicle, rather than be like everyone else that can throw money at their ride and buy a kit... i think its more of a custom job that way...

but hey this is my truck and not everyone elses... i just thought some poeple would like to se an alternate way of doing what others have been doing for a long time...

the 'kit' is the same thing you bought there, just different hinges that cost more. so its not like youre doing something so different, its all the same, and the 'kit' isnt anything more than what you have there, you still have to fabricate everything to fit.

and the latches dont bolt in, it shows you right there cutting and welding the sheetmetal in from the other door..

now to mount the striker... i climbed inside and saw where the striker needed to be mounted, then marked and tacked it just to make sure it worked them welded it when i was satisfied it did. this pic was taken after the stock hinges were removed but you get the idea.
bolted in huh? says right there you welded it..

well like i said this wasnt my write up.... i added a couple things that i did for bolt-on purposes... i havent installed the latch and striker yet... but i plan on installing the striker the same way it came off... bolt-on...ill have to cut an access hole to install the back plate... the latch on the door was originally bolted to the door also

from what i have seen of the hinges that come with the kit, they dont have the big arch in the hinge the way these hinges do... that is why the notching is required for these hinges...

im not putting down the kits they are great (just pricey) and if someone wants to go out and buy the kit and fab it up thats kewl... but i was just trying to show an alternate method... as well as an option for those of us that cant weld...it is possible...

yeah its a long tedious process... it took me prolly 18 hours to get the door suicided and the stock hinges removed.... which took the longest... still have to finish the striker and latch... so yeah i guess 24-25 hours is about right...

lol, this thread was kinda old, but since you brought it up - how are they holding up?
that seems like an alternative to buying the real hinges if they are holding up pretty good...and could they work on a 2nd generation s10?
