So I have a 91 s10 4.3l 4x4.

I have been trying to identify the the transmission for a while now and the dealer cant even tell me which it is.

The RPO code is MY2.

The transmission says Hydra-Matic on the side of it.

Thats about all i know except that it takes GM syncromesh fluid.

Any help on Id'ing the specific brand/model would be greatly appreciated.

I have heard that it could be the getrag 290 the NV3500 the BW T5 or a couple others, I dont really believe any of those because there are specific RPO codes attached to those transmissions and I assume that it would have that RPO code if it was that.

Help greatly Appreciated.

If it is a 5 speed manual behind a 4.3 in a 91 truck then it is an HM290 which is the same thing as an NV3500

It says Hydra matic on the side of it because it was a Muncie Transmission which used to be a subsidiary of GM. They made in house manual transmissions for GM
