Hello all.......I bought a laptop to use winALDL.......and I will get the cable this weekend.........never really used the tech1 at the dealership........other than doing an idle learn.............is there much to learn about reading data from winALDL?.....willl it do the same functions as the tech1?.........I want to tune this engine and make sure everything is happy under the hood. I have downloaded winALDL to this computer so I guess I will have to burn a cd with winALDL on it and stick it on the laptop.......I put windows xp on the laptop too

it is a diagnostic program that you run to monitor engine performance and sensor reading. as well it gives different flags i.e open/closed loop, rich/lean.

the program is free but you need the cable to use it

Hi people....I got the inverter to run the laptop and winALDL is loaded now...I went to autozone and bought the cable but it has a 15 pin connector on the other end......so I would need to adapt this to the common 9 pin connector.........well............radio shack, best buy, wal mart office max dont have any 15 to 9 pin adapters.................thinkin I should just cut off the 15 pin and put a 9 pin on it.......but would need the wiring specs to do that

Your gonna have to build a ttl converter for it to work. def better do some more researching also make sure winaldl can read the model computer you have.

well the connector has a 15 pin female connector in the aldl cable. its the one made by actron............and it only says its for their scanner but I doubt that........The dipshit at bestbuy said he doubted it would work with usb, but then again I have to consider who I am talking to.......he didnt have any 15 pin adapters whatsoever anyway
...as far as the connector on the other end of the cable it is a 15 pin.........2 rows of holes 7 on one side and 8 on the other

all I can find for a serial 15 pin to usb is one that costs 50 bucks...............dont think I wanna pay that much .................30 for the actron adapter which is only 4 or 5 inches long, 50 for a dam adapter, and probably another 30 for a f***** cable?.......boy did I go about this all wrong!!!!!!

Hello people...............was thinking if I could just cut off a usb connector with cable, I could adapt it to the short aldl connector I bought from autozone.........any one know how to do this.............there isnt much wires to a usb cable.......and all we are doing is connecting the usb to the aldl basically so why couldnt this be done........................................other thought is to just
F*** this whole idea........and take the dam cable back to autozone and buy one off ebay in the first place.

of course on ebay there is no cable available that has the aldl connector on one end and a usb on the other end.........I only found one wth a db9 pin on one end and just the bare pin on the other end..........................with the sellers statement claiming that this cable could damage your pc or vehicles computer............shitt all I want is a cable that works

hell I dont even know what to do now since this cable to aldl I have that is actron I dont think has any circuitry like resistors transistors in it.........I would guess unless I can see one in action its best not to try this shit and risk frying my truck. If I gotta buy another cable thats another 30 bucks where does it end......................first all I thought I needed was a 15 pin adapter to usb....well that looks like it would toast something if there is no resistors and a transistor in the cable to convert the signal..........actually that would make sense if I do have to convert the signal out.....................I think maybe the dipshit onebyay is just selling a db9 connector with wire on it..............for suckers since he says it might fry your vehicle.........there wasnt a box like the picture of johns cable, I saw that one too.....looks like it comes with a cd too........maybe I should just chop off the 15 pin connector and do the circuitry thing and see....I like the idea of having the proper ALDL connector so you cant screw up and put wires in the wrong spot and really f$%^ up a computer,,,,,,,,,,,,,HEY JOHN, DOES YOUR CABLE HAVE THE PROPER ALDL connector or do you have to insert wires into the right terminal?
