Found a Typhoon that's about an hour away from me. It has 103,xxx miles on it. Its repainted a silver color with decals etc. The body kit is there (front passenger fender clad is broken but that can be fixed hopefully), along with the entire interior, Awd, Turbo etc. Guy wants $2900 for it. Obviously for this price its not perfect. But I don't know much about them. Ive heard they are notorious for blown heads, turbo failure and other things. What else should I be looking for?

What I know about it:

Its originally a green body. It may or may not be rebodied because hes selling it as a 1989 and obviously we know its not. However it has a clean title so who knows. This is a make it-or break it problem also because I don't want to buy a stolen truck.

Paint on the roof is peeling.

Leaks about a 1"x5" puddle overnight. Owner says oil is on the bottom of the motor hard to track, Im thinking it might be a oil line, but who knows. Obviously this can be a make it-or break it problem.

Says it runs good but has a very slight miss at idle, this could be something small like a vacuum leak or it could be god knows what else.

Dont get ne wrong, all signs point to it being a mess. But a little project would be okay since I can always drive the blazer while I work on it. SO I figured I would ask my friendly neighborhood S10f gurus about these trucks because obviously if its legit I don't want to miss out on owning a great piece of GM history (especially since I think prices are just going to continue to rise).

BRB with pictures :haha:

BRB'er just saw the ****ing checklist.:rotf: - Nevermind links don't work lol

Wish they wouldn't have repainted it silver.
Yeah that's a problem also, but a minor one. After owning god knows how many black vehicles I would be happy to have a silver one since it hides a lot of dirt lol.

Haha sorry guys. Like I said I'm going to try and get down there sooner.

I talked to the guy in Florida that did a quick repaint and interior restore. He said that it is 100% positively a 1989 4wd blazer that someone did a great job at cloning it using parts off 1992 Ty #1968. Basically everything off a Ty is on this clone. Two ecms, correct sy/ty core support with decals etc. Its been done very well, hopefully it runs strong and just needs some paint and tlc.

I talked to 2 of the last three owners and they all said the same thing. Body isnt perfect but it ran and drove great.

It sucks its a clone and not a real Ty ... But it would make a cool/fun daily if I can get it all dialed in and reliable.

I think the body under the cladding is rough. And there are holes where the mounts for the clad is. If I end up picking it up I'm going to embrace the fact its a clone, fix whatever small minute differences there are and eventually paint it a factory color.
