Found a nice, easy way to search GM 4L60/65/70e case numbers. Scroll down until you see the search engine in the picture below. Type in your four digit case number on your transmission and it will tell you what kind of vehicle it came from. So if you're looking to buy a transmission off of offer-up or Craigslist, you can type in the case number and make sure it will work for your application and the seller not trying to rip you off.

I decided I was going to overhaul my 4L60e so I've been doing a ton of research and decided to share what I found to help others. The video series I found has a lot of good information but the guy given the instruction is boring. I kept falling asleep. I felt like I was back in high school with a dull teacher.

I'm sure while you are doing the actual rebuild and referring back to it you won't find it as boring.
BTW on some of the earlier 4L60E's the tag code was stamped around the corner from the tail housing on the passengers side into the top edge of the pan rail. A lot easier to read when the trans is still in.

Yes, the 700R4 and the 4L60 and 4L60e with the 4-bolt tail housing stamped on the case on the same side as the 2/4 servo back by the tail housing.
