I have a '95 S10 4.3 TBI, auto. I'm trying to remove the gauge cluster. Is it possible without removing the top steering column cover? My Haynes manual says only the gauge cluster bezel needs to come off. But I can't seem to get it out with that top column cover there and to remove it the steering+airbag need to be removed.

Thanks

You probably don't have enough room to get the gauge cluster past the top of the steering wheel, but rather than take it apart - look underneath the steering column where it attaches to the bottom of the dash. There are two bolts holding in up. take those off and lower the column. Easiest way to do it, just makes it uncomfortable to sit in the seat to take the gauges out. (loosen the cluster first).
