this weekend i started on my flowmaster exhaust. it is a custom cat back using a 50series suv 3"in dual 2.5" out. i am doing this in preparation for my turbo setup. and because my old setup got smashed in a wreck. see "bad news good news" in b&b section.

here is a pic of the old exhaust after i finally wrestled it out of the truck. one of the dam bolts would not come out to save my life. i ended up stripping the piss out of it and using the torch and air chizzel to eventually tear it out.

here is the cat mounting bracket i cut it off of the old setup and cleaned it up.

here is a pic of the new setup installed and taking shape.

i got a little more done than that. currently the passenger side pipe exits right behind the rear wheel.(will be extended to bumper) and the drivers side heads up and over the diff.( will be extended to bumper) no pics of that yet. i had to stop short to take a look a my pops truck.

i really like the sound at idle. it sounds great there. i dont really love the sound at light cruze (too much interior resonance) but hopefully that will disappear when i extend the pipes to the rear of the truck.

ok well i haven't made much progress with the exhaust because i have been doing the body work needed to fix it up. but i did do some dyno runs and have a comparison to the ones i had before.

before

after

they are only about 2 weeks apart and i have not changed ANYTHING else.

Was there a significant temperature difference between the two days that the testing took place? I'm certainly not calling your numbers into question, I'm just trying to figure all the variables, as that seems like a radical jump in hp for a muffler and piping swap....

not drastically different as i recall (although i did not record the temps). but i believe that the dyno software takes the temp into consideration. not positive tho. might have to look into it.

the weather has been pretty consistent. especially at 1am. :)

i think the major change in hp is due to the different shapes of the graphs above 4.5k. not completely sure what happened there.

here is a pic of the two transposed the bold one is the newer.

the change in the line over the whole graph is probably a better representation of gains.

well i finally had time to work on it and i finished up the exhaust. i think it sounds fantastic now! the interior resonance issue is gone and it still sounds great outside or if you roll down the windows. sounds throaty and strong but slightly subdued perfect for the sleeper i am going to build. i will try to get some vids up so you all can see it.

i love seeing exhaust coming from both sides!!!!

the left side seems lower (cuz it is) but because there was not exhaust hangers on that side. because their was no exhaust. so it will be fixed when i get a hanger put in on that side.

That's because there'll really shouldn't be a pipe run on that side.
The 2dr Blazers have limited space on that side due to the gas tank.

does your truck really weigh 4950 i dont see how it weighs that much? and the 148 sounds more reasonable for a 97, maybe they let off at 4000 or something, max power should be around 4500rpm so the 148 sounds better to me.

thanks man! it actually idles louder than it seems. the first part the camera was between 20 and 30 ft away. the second part gives you a better idea of the idle.
