After doing a lot of work to get my 1985 S10 Blazer operation again, I'm now driving it regularly, and I find I enjoy it. It's still got the carbureted 2.8L engine, so it's not fast, but still fun. I think part of it is the fact that it's rear-wheel drive compared to all the other cars I've owned for the last 20 years, which have been front-wheel drive. Even though FWD has been improved a lot since the 1980s, it still feels different. I think 'heavier' is the word a lot of people use, and that's how it feels to me. My other car is a Volvo XC70. It weighs 400 pounds more than the S10, but it feels a lot heavier even though it's objectively faster and has a more sophisticated suspension.
I guess 'fun' is a hard thing to quantify and relate to objective specs. But the first cars I drove were rear-wheel drive, like the 60s and 70s Pontiacs and Buicks my family owned. It still feels "right" to me.
