Well, I pulled the 4.3 out of my truck, and bought a 5.7L Vortec and 4L60E transmission, but I have a slight problem. The engine is out of a 99 Suburban, and the transmission is out of a 97 Yukon (I think). When I went and picked them up, I didn't notice this, but the engine has an extra bolt hole. Hopfully the pics will show up so you can see what I mean. WTF? Did GM add an extra bolt on later model engines? Can I still use this engine tranny combo?

That bolt hole in the top of the engine is very common and rarely ever used.
I have seen one in use one time and it was in a big dump bed chevy truck with a manual trans and 350, an early 1970's model truck.

Yeah, I talked to my dad right after I posted and he said pretty much the same thing y'all said. I've never done a swap before, so I guess its a good thing he is the brains of this operation. Thanks for answering a stupid question!

i'm still trying to find all the bolts i took out. i know they're around my garage somewhere.
